I am a 4th year trying to plan my schedule with my family for next year. I was wondering if the new interns could state the dates they are/were first required to arrive for orientation. The name of the program you are at would be helpful as well if you are willing to divulge that info. OR Is there a website or other means by which I could find this info? Thanks!

Also wondering...are the start dates generally the same for all specialty programs within a given hospital/institution?

it's officially july 1 at IU as well, though i think there are few orientation things before that. most programs will be between mid-june to july 1. and, no, no all programs at a given center will start at the same time--med and peds here start the last week of june ( but then the interns get the last week of june off, which would be nice).

To play it safe, I would leave yourself the two full weeks before July 1 wide open.

For the most part, July 1 is the official start date, but most everyone has 'stuff' they must do before then. I have ACLS tomorrow and the next day, and then orientation stuff the following week. A friend of mine started orientation today and starts working next Monday....

Our interns officially start on July 2nd (it's a Monday), however their hospital/GME orientation started today. Their EM orientation will start next Monday.

Georgetown/WHC started with orientation June 12 this year!! 😱
We had hospital orientation for the first week and now have a nice long program orientation that lasts until August 1. During orientation we do PALS, ACLS, ATLS, lectures, clinical shifts and some other fun stuff....canoeing, etc 😀
So far, so good!

I would definitely leave a few weeks toward the end of June open, though!

Here at BIDMC we started orientation June 12 and start clinical shifts on June 24. The IM, Surg and OB/GYN residents appear to also start here on June 24.

During our orientation we do the typical ACLS, ATLS, PALS and some EM-specific labs on U/S, suturing, sheep-killing, etc. Also we get to sit through the pure joy and excitement that is mandatory GME orientation day. The trade-off is a wicked cool clambake. Well worth it I say.

WashU began the 13th of June... friends in several other programs also started that week -- to be careful give yourself the 3 weeks prior to July 1 (I originally only planned for 2 - oops 👎) The worst thing would be to have a free week in your new city...

The other 26 WashU training programs start all diff't times... both earlier and later.

University at Buffalo started June 13th with ATLS.

Mid-June in many places.

I love it.
