Would an M.D. from an international university carry the same weight as a U.S. one? As far as job opportunities and whatnot go?
To be more specific, I've considered going to college in Japan for a while now, and I initially planned to do it for undergraduate studies, however I realized my Japanese is not up to par for university-level study. Specifically, I'd like to go to the University of Tokyo. In 2009, it was ranked the 3rd best university in the world by some organization or something, so I figured it'd be pretty legit. Anyways, since my Japanese isn't up to par I figured I'd do undergrad here and then maybe grad/medical school there in Tokyo, since I'd have 4 more years to study the language. Money isn't really an issue for me, as I have quite a few family members in that immediate area.
But yeah, I doubt I'd want to live there permanently so I'm concerned what effect it might have in the job market, because I'd hate to lose an opportunity to someone who went to a US school just by virtue of the location of the school.
