I finished internship today! Congrats to all my fellow interns! Are you guys as excited as I am? Now, reality is setting in, I'm getting a little nervous, lol.

Praise be to God it's over. My year wasn't even that rough, but I ended with 2 months straight of Medicine floor service. You know, the usual. My particular team was on the "Liver Floor" in a hospital that has a penchant for liver transplants, so on top of making sure everyone had a good bowel regimen and calling for OHS records, every admission seemed to require a diagnostic paracentesis with pigtail placement for large volume removal. And Lactulose QID. And explaining to family members why a full code in a person with a MELD of 38 wouldn't go well.

I actually spent one night on call seriously working out the math on whether I could go back to my past life, working as an occupational therapist making ~55K, and still pay off my debt.

Either way, it's over, and I'm so much better for it. Parts of the year sucked (as above) and parts were great. One year down, and I still don't regret medicine. Can't wait to be an OR noobie. For the second straight year: patients - be afraid.

Finishing up my year today...even going out on a high note after I got my longterm ICU-player gomere out to a hospice yesterday. Just helping out the new crop of interns with their first couple admissions today and then I'm outta here! I won't even own a pager for the next week. I think my body will feel 100lbs lighter!

I start out CA-1 year in the Pain clinic, unfortunately...gonna feel like a dunce come August when everyone else has been in the OR for a month and I'm still a complete n00b. 😱

I'm on call tomorrow and it's OVA. I'm on surgery and I told my chief on day 1 I ain't scrubbing and she obliged 😀. I mentally checked out on June 2nd.

I have a week off to chill and read then I'm on General Anesthesia. Only 1 call for the whole month, but its trauma call on a Friday night 😱

i envy all of you - on medicine floors my last month with 2 more calls to go. WTH !! can't wait to start gassin' up and saying bye-bye to waiting on placement for medically stable, homeless, schizophrenic drug addicts requiring insulin needles and walkers for gait instability with absolutely no health benefits who also steal other patient's food
