For those of you who intend to practice in Florida, do you know if there is a requirement for a 1 year DO internship for Florida licensure? I have been a Florida resident for 20 yrs and will apply to NSU for 2000. I will most likely remain in the state to practice emergency medicine (with any luck!). If I apply to a "non-DO" emergency medicine residency, how does that affect state licensure as a DO? Thanks for any info.

Presently, a one-year osteopathic internship is required for a DO to practice in Florida. You could do an osteopathic internship and then do a ACGME-accredited ("non-DO") EM residency.

Florida is one of the few states that still requires an AOA internship.
When you are accepted to an ACGME (MD) program they may or may not
accept the internship as your PGY1 year. If they won't, you'll start
their program as a PGY1. Other than that you won't have any problems
getting a license. Also, there has been talk of abolishing this
rule since only 5 states still require it. Maybe by the time you
graduate it won't be a problem.
