I was looking at the numbers someone posted of DMU's applied/interviewed/accepted and it seems like anyone that interviews at DMU has an extremely high chance of getting in. I'm an out of stater, the stat read 550 applied, 490 accepted, something on that order. I know some people might not want to admit this, but has anyone been rejected from DMU after interviewing for this season?

Am I correct in saying that a DMU interview is pretty much an acceptance if you're interview goes pretty well?

No, you are not correct.

I inverviewed at DMU back in September and was waitlisted. I didn't feel like I performed at my best during the interview but I thought they would understand that it was only my first panel interview. Plus, I saw that the stats of many of those who were accepted were lower than mine. So overall I wouldn't say that an interview necessarily means acceptance. Unless of course almost everyone gets off the waitlist and they count those as acceptances. Anyhow, if you get an interview good luck and I'm sure you'll do just fine! Merry Christmas!

To the OP -

You do the math. An interview means you have a good shot at an acceptance, but not that you'll get one. And if you go into the interview thinking the spot is already yours, I'd say you're do yourself a huge disservice.

This is kind of embarassing to admit, but I recieved a rejection letter on Christmas eve of all days. I'm baffled. I thought my interview went well, nothing too different from other schools I have been accepted to, in fact I thought better. I wouldn't be so bummed if it wasn't such a cool school. I was planning to send in a deposit. My stats are 25 MCAT, and 3.6 GPA(3.4 science). Nothing too bad but they kept asking me if I thought I could really handle the rigors of med school. I related how I worked 30 hrs/ week during undergrad and did research and managed to get an A- average. I thought this was weird because my stats aren't that bad. We were told not to worry about academics in our interviews because we were all good enough as far as that is concerned, but for some reason it must have been an issue. 😕

Welcome to my world, MagnumDR. Sometimes schools just don't like you.

I know browsing SDN gives you the impression that interviews mean you're, "in" unless you completely bomb them, but this isn't true. Browse MDapplicants for awhile and talk to a broad range of applicants, and you will find most have rejections as well as acceptances. It's the reason people usually apply to a lot of schools.

Although, I don't understand why they were questioning your ability to handle med school when you have a decent GPA. I was never asked that question, and my stats are lower than yours.

Interviews are completely subjective, so who knows what they were thinking. At least you have other acceptances. 👍

I am not sure what you're referring in "550 applied, 490 accepted"..but I would suggest not to take your interview lightly. DMU's interview is some-what laid back but its one of those that they're watching every little thing that you do. Some people who interviewed with me are either rejected or waitlisted. They told me that besides grades and stats, they only want students that can "fit" into the university's friendly and supportive environment, and they clearly stated that not everyone is a "good" fit for them. Good luck!! 👍

Magnum I'm sorry about the bad news..its too bad that we won't see ya next aug.
