interview & getting in

so i got an interview.
now i want to know my chances of getting in. assuming i do well on my interview.
i have a low gpa (really low) - but everything else in my application was good. high pcats, great letters of recommendation, lots of experience and i am completely convinced pharmacy is for me.

i am hoping that the fact that they are bringing me in for an interview means that they have accepted the low gpa. any ideas???

does anyone know if they use the interview as the make/break of getting in?


Can I ask where you got interviews? They definitely use interviews as make/break of getting in. If you got to the interview point it means they are considering you!
Also, how low is low?? Some people say that a 3.5 is low...

by low i actually mean low - 2.6. i go to william and mary which i have been told they give preference to as opposed to almost any other school.
the gpa is killing me.

Here's the proof, people. Everytime someone asks if they can get into pharmacy school with x.xx GPA, let's link to this. It proves that other areas of the application can make up for the GPA.

Oh, and thanks for the encouragement, too. My GPA isn't much better than yours, but I'm hoping my LORs are pretty good too, lol.

He's proof of what? He hasn't been accepted. Nobody said people won't get in with a low GPA, but the chances of people getting in with a low gpa are extremely low.
 
good luck with your interview! i am also in the same situation. my gpa is not very stellar because of the classes at my university, but my pcat, ec's, and LORs have been able to make up for it thankfully. i have an interview at mercer on the 26th..

I don't think anyone has ever said that applicants with low GPA won't get it. It's just that it is significantly harder to get in with a lower GPA than with a higher GPA. 😉
 
The fact that he got an interview means that they're interested in him; they wouldn't waste their time for no reason. Obviously he didn't get accepted, but hey, people who are feeling down can take faith at the slightest glimmer of hope.

There are at least 3 or 4 topics a week about "is my GPA good enough?" So if it's good enough for an interview, it's good enough for acceptance. That's all I meant.

Just a friendly correction, but he did not say whether or not he was accepted. His interview is coming up so the decision on admittance will be given to him later.

I think once you make it to the interview.. you're on a level playing field once again (somewhat). Here is your chance to make the best impression you can through the essay (which I messed up so badly on last year) and the interview (which if you're prepared and confident, you'll do just great). best of luck!

If everyone that fell short in one area didn't apply to pharm school there would be no freaking applicants. You can absolutly get in with a low GPA and you know that.

That sucks you didn't get in man, but try and stay positive. Many of us are not perfect applicants either, but we are fighting for what we want.

What school do you go to? I'm curious. If you don't want to mention it on here feel free to PM me. If not it's okay too, like I said, just curious. Is the school in California?


And I'm sensing a lot of negativity in here! Lol. I think you do have a chance of getting in - even with that GPA. Just do extremely well in the interview. Good luck :luck:
 
Congrats on the interview...now prepare to knock their socks off! Your interview is your "window of opportunity", maximize the opportunity and do your best. Don't let a potential negative, like low gpa, dictate the conversation and interview process. Focus on the positive aspects and sell yourself.

I don't believe an interview invite means the pharmacy school has "accepted the low gpa of 2.6"

Your single biggest savior and equalizer was your PCAT score. If you didn't have "high pcats," it would be difficult to fathom an interview invite regardless of how good your LORs, PS, or experience were.

You are living the dream of a low GPA applicant. Search on this site for interview feedbacks. I heard these feedbacks will help tremendously on preparing for your interview.

Lastly, Your interview will definitely make or break your chances of getting into pharmacy school. My prediction at the interview stage of application is roughly 50/50 of getting accepted. good luck. 👍

I tell it how it is. If ya don't like my advice, you don't have to read it. If you want a typical cheerleader response, you can get it from everyone else but me. As for me being "no fun at parties." I wouldn't be willing to bet on that either.


To the OP: prepare, prepare, prepare. Practice with others. Stage mock panel interviews. Dress to impress, get a good night sleep. Watch out for the ethical questions, answer it wrong, and your application goes in the trash. You want to look confident, answer confidently, but you also want your answers to be sincere (i.e. be yourself). You don't want your answers to sound rehearsed. Be prepared to answer questions that address your low gpa.

btw, congrats on getting a interview. Now time for me to go back to being a cynical P1 student

Given the number of applicants out there, some (many likely) will not be able to get in on the first try. Those will tend to be the ones at the lower end of the GPA spectrum, but there are multiple examples of people getting in with less than average grades. Bare in mind that they brought something else to the table. What it is varies, but you can't expect to come in with nothing but below average grades and get in. As Mr. Blah mentioned. You must prepare and practice. Know what it is you need them to know to knock them off their feet and be sure you can exude it with confidence. There are no guarantees in life, but you certainly don't want to let it ruin your life if you don't get in on the first try either.
 
and im sure all of this is fixed........someone who knows an adcom member will have a better chance of getting in.....so this system is corrupted.....
 
I don't understand, am I typing something different on my screen than on the rest of the forum? I never said he was accepted, nor implied it. But to get an interview, you have to at least have a chance at getting accepted. You need to be mind-blowing at the interview to get accepted. People who are saying "you won't get accepted" have no way of knowing that, and will not know until he gets a rejection notice.

I never said an interview is an acceptance letter. But it means you're not out of the running yet, and you have been given the chance to really impress the adcoms. Don't listen to everyone else saying the negative crap, just start studying your ass off for the interview to blow them away. Answer the question of "why should we accept you with your low GPA? What could you possibly do better than someone with a GPA a whole point better than yours?" And hey, maybe you don't deserve it and won't get in. But with a 99 on the PCAT, I doubt it's a fluke, and that you know your material. But they need to know that you won't flake out when the courses get tough. Good luck.

congrats on your invite. i'm sure they will accept you once they meet you. i am sure i won't be hearing good news from vcu, because i have low gpa and average pcat. maybe pharmacy isn't for me. i will have to rethink.
