does anyone know when interview offers end typically? do any programs offer interviews in jan.? thanks!

But with 31 Straight Rejections, and not a single invite, I can only expect the same from the other 83 programs I have yet to hear from since a majority of those 83 have sent out invites

I suppose score >230, a year of an unpaid clinical research fellowship, and 2 outstanding letters from Derm Gods doesn't really cut the mustard anymore

Presumably I should wait another week before throwing in the towel, but based on the trend, my ropes are running low!

if i recall correctly, i also received a couple of invites in january. most came the first 3 weeks of december.

sorry, izzy 🙁. things aren't going that great for me, though i do have a few interviews for which i am grateful. i, too, am doing unpaid research so know how that goes. i have excellent numbers, several publications, but just missed aoa and don't have letters from big name people. this whole process is brutal.

All I can say is hang in there!! We really don't know what to expect in the next couple of weeks and by the sounds of your accomplishments, you sound quite worthy for an invite. I know the game of patience is difficult, I am in the same boat, but I think if we can hang on for 2-3 more weeks, we all might surprise ourselves.

Do NOT throw the towel in yet!

good news is that even with his 20+ interviews, he can ultimately only end up at 1 program.

bad news though, is that there outta be 30+ superstars like him around the country who don't post here who are getting invited everywhere.

But with 31 Straight Rejections, and not a single invite, I can only expect the same from the other 83 programs I have yet to hear from since a majority of those 83 have sent out invites

I suppose score >230, a year of an unpaid clinical research fellowship, and 2 outstanding letters from Derm Gods doesn't really cut the mustard anymore

Presumably I should wait another week before throwing in the towel, but based on the trend, my ropes are running low!

Yeah, and it looks like last year UTSW only interviewed 29 people! Great odds 🙂 I was so excited to get an invite there. The 2 day thing does make it a little harder to fit in though. On the other hand, I thought Raleigh/Durham was a pretty nice area to live?

UTSW has a much better national reputation for derm.

UTSW is a department, Duke is a division (I think, correct me if I am wrong).

UTSW has more spots up for grabs.

Dallas is a much bigger and much more happening place than Durham.

Duke is now a department. I'm not sure how much of a difference there is in terms of quality of program. UTSW may have a marginally better national reputation, but Duke is an excellent place to train. It's a relatively large department with several "big name" faculty members (e.g. Elise Olsen, Russ Hall, Jonathan Cook, Neil Prose). Duke's program director is awesome and the faculty is really well balanced in their academic interests and expertise (two pediatric dermatologists, two dermatopathologists, several faculty members with dual IM, derm certification, etc). You're certainly correct that Dallas may have more going on than Durham, but the triangle has plenty to do if you're single and is ideal if you're already married, have children, etc. I understand you have to decide between the two in terms of where to interview, but don't blow Duke off just because you think UTSW has a better national reputation. Duke has a fantastic program. The residents I know there are very happy and leave as exceedingly well-trained dermatologists.

SkinPath, you said you were a successful reapplicant. What did you do after the first time around that helped you? Any advice would be appreciated. Obviously, the usual is to do a research fellowship... but any other advice? Any particular institutions for research fellowships that you would recommend?

An SDN user PM'ed me telling me about Rush sending out an invite on Dec 3. I guess he/she wanted to remain anonymous or didn't have access to a computer and figured since I am so anal about updating that this info would certainly be added. 😛 This reminded me that an update was long overdue.

However, this will be the last time I do this because the list is getting very long/unwieldy and each update takes too long. I'll just have to curb my OCD tendencies. =)
If a few programs fall off the list, then so be it. 😉 If any of you feel like it though, please add a program back on the list if you see that it's missing, even if you already posted it.

People keep saying the majority of interviews come in Dec...

Based on the link sweatybrain posted earlier (http://www.dermboard.net/docs/interviewoffers2008.htm), it seems like there's only a small smattering of programs that send out interview invites in Dec. Some of those programs are the top ones that I have no chance in hell to get an interview.

I'm still trying to be positive though, and hope that more invites will pop up as people with 20+ interviews have to decline some of their interviews because of scheduling conflicts...

I was very impressed by UTSW and their interview. The 2 day interview was very well run - very professional. Great program with great teaching, wonderful faculty who took the time and knew my application prior to the interview, who provided valuable advice (regardless of the match). I didn't go to Duke, but UTSW was worth rearranging other interviews for. It was also a beautiful escape from the rest of the country during the winter interview season!
