Remember, there may be others who post on or view this forum who do not have any invites. Be careful as they may wrongfully assume they are still in that biggest loser role.

Congrats. Now you have a chance...an opportunity has opened, now you need to shine.

I recommend researching as much as you can on the RWMC Derm residency, its strengths and weaknesses, etc...start with their website and other materials. Programs like to hear why you want to go to their residency program...by emphasizing their strengths (eg. strong dermpath exposure, location, etc) they will know you did your "homework" and typically reciprocate interest in you. Also...do NOT talk about the program's weaknesses.

Know your application thoroughly. It's fair game. They may ask questions about your research and publications. They may ask questions about your FMG status. Smile and give them a good answer...try to make every answer a "positive" and "sincere" (this takes preparation and practice). Do NOT give any filibuster answers (try to limit answers to 2 - 3 sentences).

Ask questions that give the interviewers a chance to brag about their residency program.

Remember interview day is your "Super Bowl". You have 1 day to shine. Smile and show a sincere personality. Do not be shy.

My friend graduated from Harbor-UCLA. He enjoyed the program. He said his attendings/staff were great.

Harbor - UCLA sometimes takes 2 residents a year...and sometimes 1 resident a year. Ask how many spots are available on interview day.

It's not located in a glamarous place like UCLA (Westwood). In fact, some people consider it the ghetto.

Loma Linda is affiliated with the 7th-Day Adventist Church. So don't trink alcohol or caffeine during interview day.

Their residents seemed really nice and team-orientated.

Good Derm Mohs and cosmetic exposure. Their Chair is a Mohs surgeon and they have a Procedural Derm fellowship.

Derm path exposure is weak.


I don't know anything about Jefferson.

USF is the only one i know about, I am interviewing there and I really like the program. They do a lot of work at the VA, have decent surgical exposure and even give you some cosmetics exposure/training if you are interested in that. The PD can be a little intimidating, but he is a great guy overall. Rumor has it that one of their spots is "filled" by a guy who worked closely with their faculty as a PA in derm, so that is a bummer. Hope that helps.

I interviewed at both and my preference was UCSD.
 
I know nothing about UCSD (although San Diego may be the best city in the country in my opinion). Yale has a lot of research and some very big-name faculty (Bolognia). You will get great training there and have wonderful opportunities to make connections. However, I have heard that their residents are not very happy and that there are quite a few difficult personalities there. New Haven is not a very nice city, but you can easily live somewhere close by and commute.

Does anyone know if Harvard Combined is the 5 year med-derm program, and if you have the option to also do the regular 3 year program if you received an invite for the combined program.

When you say how many interviews you have at this point, are you counting your non-ERAS away rotation interviews?

If yes, then 12. If not, then 10. I got two invites post Thanksgiving.
