do the majority of interview invites come via email or snail mail (my guess is email, from what i've been seeing?) - or simply changes in your online status page?

Email mostly. But also some snail and some status page as you speculated.

I concur. Both of my interview invites came via email.

I got 1 rejection via snail-mail, and 1 rejection via status page update (but they sent me an email telling me that they updated my status page and to check it out.)

haha no it was Case Western actually. They just had a message posted that they will be unable to interview me and will no longer consider my application active.
