Interview invites

Has anyone been getting invites recently? I just finished my line up of interviews, but it has been quite some time since I had an invite. Just wondering if this is a normal time for a drop-off in invites. I know some schools have two interview groups, an early one and then they start again later. Is this the reason for the quiet month?

Other than post-interview responses, I haven't heard a peep from schools since September :/ It is pretty disheartening. All this silence frustrating as hell, but I think some more invites might come out before the holidays. But maybe that's just wishful thinking...

I went on 7 interviews, and just got another invite last week. It's completely unpredictable!

same, I got 4 invites in a span of 3 weeks (late aug-early sept) and haven't heard a word since..

Did this happen last year? I mean, it must have, but I don't remember reading it...seems to be much more discussed this year.

Can anybody who participated in last year's cycle confirm this "black hole" of no invites or contact except for post interview notifications in Oct/Nov?

Hey! Same here! I just finished up my run of 4 interviews and I got all of those invites like a month and a half ago. My theory is that we've already been reviewed at the schools we're still waiting on (not unfavorably but not first-run quality material) and will probably hear from these schools like in Jan-Feb or not at all.

The weird thing I find is it is not necessarily the top top choices I am waiting on. Some are my safeties nearby or my instate school. I have received interviews from "higher rated" places. Just a random process, and sometimes I think the files before and after yours in the pile can greatly affect yours. Admissions people probably feel more pressure to defer/reject files than not, and they can't invite 5 files in a row.

Sounds like my grading as a TA. Well I can't give everyone an A! You know there's a problem with the system when I'm relieved that one student just sucked up their lab report horribly so I don't have to worry about my average being too high.

I agree with you completely. I received 5 interview invites 1.25 months ago in the same 2 week span, many were from great programs but none of them were from California (my home state). I haven't heard anything from any school since then.

Same here. No invites/updates for about a month now. I think my last one was in early October. Still waiting on 5 schools, I withdrew from about 4 where I was on hold or hadn't heard from either. Not really expecting to get any more interviews as I've been fortunate enough in the process so far.

its been a long while and it seems that interview slots at schools are running dry anyway. from what i gather, it seems the slots are running out quicker this year than previous years.

Maybe it's different for MD/PhD applicants but I've been getting a relatively steady stream... I've been getting an invite or 2 every couple of weeks since my application was verified. It could also be that I wasn't complete until the middle of September 😳

My guess is they are either waiting to see how many people accept their October admission offers before revising their interview numbers or, most likely, they are busy interviewing all the people they have invited so far and are spending less time reviewing files than they did a month or two ago.

i got 4 invites so far.

3 from in state schools

1 oos.

i got these interviews in october. I haven't heard from anyone in november. I think i might get one or two more but really I dont care. All the schools i really wanted to go to have given me invites. Now hopefully they will also accept me 🙂

I got 5 interviews in Sept I think and silence until last Thursday when I finally got another. Don't lose hope they're still trickling out! Hopefully some schools have a date (like after Thanksgiving?) where they reevaluate where they are and start sending out more interviews. That's just wishful thinking though

I got 5 within the last week of September and first week of October.

Nothing since.

Complete at about 30 schools in late July/early August.
3 invites in August, 4 in September, 2 in October, and 2 in Nov (last week). I don't know why mine have been so spaced out compared to everyone else..

Now, schools are not giving me any love (hopefully I can get two more interviews)

7/30, 8/1, 8/5, 8/7, 9/16, 9/28, 10/19, 10/21, 11/16

So spread out over the months, but with pretty big stretches of nothing in between. I didn't exactly turn my secondaries around quickly, though.
