Okay...I feel quite silly for doing this, but I've already spent 15 minutes looking around the forum, but still couldn't find the answer I needed...

I have an interview coming up for the University of Iowa, and am still trying to find the right dress shoes that would help me get around and still look professional for the climate there. I was wondering if anybody had any recommendations...thanks!! If I were to bring shoes to change out of, is there a proper etiquette for that? For example, would it be weird to excuse yourself before a tour of the campus just to change shoes?

My suggestion would be to call the school and ask if you could leave your change of shoes in an office while you are interviewing. The schools I interviewed at last year seemed fine with that. Definitely don't leave the tour as that would be bad etiquette and make it seem that your aren't interested in what they are showing you. Do it before you start the process.

Hey, I have an interview at Iowa this Saturday too. I used to go to school at Iowa, so I can tell you that the parking ramp where you should park will be a short walk (3-5 minutes) from the pharmacy building. Therefore, I don't think it will be necessary for you to wear boots or anything to wear while walking outside simply because it is not supposed to snow that much (if at all) before Saturday anyway.

I have worn these shoes (in black) to my past two interviews and I have found them to work out really well. They are closed toed so they are very appropriate for cold weather.

The tour that they will take us on is (I think) only going to be an indoor tour. Therefore, you won't have to worry about walking around on campus either.

Hope that helps 🙂 See you Saturday if you are there in the morning!

ninewest has one of the most comfortable dressing shoes. They keep your feet warm and comfie at the same time. Log to their website and check it out.

I'm assuming that your a female....I would suggest a pump style show that is closed toe. Don't get a very high heal because in my opinion it looks like shoes you wear to the club.

HTH

You could do a black leather boot. Other than that, you need to just suck it up. I live up north (eh?) and that's what we do. We suck it up.

its suppose to be 30 degrees here on sat. so I dont think u need to change the shoes... but then again maybe im used to the cold and 30 feels like spring to me lol

Thanks everybody! You all were very helpful...🙂

I have no knowledge of female shoes (or shoes in general really) but I like your cat.

If I were a girl....clear heels. Definitely. Nothing captures attention like clear heels. The higher the better.

It's obvious that your not a girl LOL cause I wouldn't be caught dead at an interview with clear high heels or clear heels at all 👎

Even I know better. Clear heels are stripper requirements. Dont know if thats the impression you wanna give to the adcom. Like Chris Rock said, "theres no clear heels in biology."

I had the same worries. I am going to Chicago in 2 weeks and I bet it's a lot colder there than MD. I hope it doesn't snow that day so I can wear heels. I don't want to spend $$ for black boots. Thanks for starting the thread. I will stick with black heels 😳

I'm a guy, so take this for what it is worth... I would honestly go with whatever is comfortable because chances are, you'll be given a tour during your interview and so, walking smoothly would probably be a good thing. As far as cold weather goes, the chances of you standing outside for long periods of time are slim so keep that in mind as well.

If it's snowing, then I'm wearing my snow boots. Otherwise, I'm wearing black leather low heel boots.

What I did was bring two pairs of shoes, one casual but warm and then my dress shoes. I wore the warmer pair while I was driving around looking for the school and switched them before I went inside. You spend essentially the entire duration of your time indoors at SU, but I guess that depends on how your travel arrangements are if you can bring different pairs of shoes. Best of luck to you. 🙂
