guys

when is the typical interview period? most of my mates got their interviews during the month of nov or dec last year...should i expect the same? i need to plan ahead and schedule my vacation time from work for future interviews...many thanks!

thanks.
so i'm thinking nov and dec for internal med? i know this is quite unpredictable and depends on institution, but a ballpark figure? and do they give me any control over the interview dates?

thanks

What time frame is the range for neurology? Where do I find this out?

Thanks

Neuro: I had my first interview Oct 22 and my last January 18th. I know some who interviewed in the first two weeks of February. Neurology tends to have pretty early interviews - I believe because they used to be part of the early match and are just accustomed to it.

thanks.

I had IM interviews that ranged from Nov to Feb but the bulk of them were Dec/Jan. Depending on the program, you will likely have some control over when you interview but not much. In general, when you get an invite you'll be given a certain # (2-10) of dates from which to choose but there are other places (Mt Sinai springs to mind) where you'll get a letter saying, "congratulations, you'll be interviewing here on Date X, please call or email to confirm." If that date doesn't work for you, most places will work with you to a certain extent. The upside is that IM has way more dates and slots on those dates than any other specialty.

If you're planning your schedule and trying to figure out which months to leave open for interviews, either Nov/Dec or Dec/Jan would be fine. If you can only have one free month, make it Dec and know that you may have to take a day or two off of a rotation to interview another month.
