Hey everyone,
I just interviewed at SCO, on April 8th, ICO, April 1st, and Nova on March 29th.

My stats are 3.29 G.P.A.
Oat are as follows
RC: 260
QR: 310
Biology: 330
Physics: 320
Organic :330
Chemistry 320
TA: 310
TS: 330

I am currently an optometric assistant and have shadowed at another private practice. I'm in POPS and have attended the Texas Optometric Association Convention. I also volunteer by administering Vision Screenings in the Houston Community and have volunteered for the Houston Low Vision Club.

I was put on hold at SCO and NOVA, and posted my deposit for the alternate list at ICO. Has anyone been in my position? My interviews went well in my point of view.

I think all schools want each score above 300.

Did they ask you to retake the OAT?

Non of the schools asked me to retake the OAT... Im just looking to see what my chances are. SCO is making their alternate list in the next few days and NOVA just said that I am on hold because they will "revisit" my application at a later date.

I was accepted to 3 schools with a 270 in RC, including NOVA. I had a 340 AA and a 370 TS though.

Hey Bandana,
When was your interviews if you don't mind me asking.

I think you are a competitive. You applied late in the process which means all the seats were probably already taken. Optometry school is rolling admissions. You should apply in August/September when the applications are made available.

If you don't manage to get in off the wait list, I would suggest redoing the OAT and reapplying EARLY in the next admissions cycle.

I wouldn't totally lose hope though, I'm not sure how ICO's alternate list is, but I know at SUNY many people get in off the wait list.

If the OP doesn't get in, but they were placed on hold and they applied late this cycle, I would imagine that they would get in with no problem the next year just by applying early. Probably no need to even retake the oat.

I agree, it makes a huge difference.

Thank you for all of your input. Its nice to see how everyone is so supportive because the family environment within optometry is one of the main reasons why I chose this profession. I am going to stay positive and take whatever comes my way. I do have a question in regard to NOVA though... Has anyone gotten accepted this late in the cycle?

Family environment? What do you mean?

Family environment? What do you mean?

People become closer in times of struggle. Optometry struggles against and with ophthalmology and opticianry.

For me, I have been blessed to attend state conferences where I am allowed to attend classes in which I am learning how to sell more materials, stay current with state legislation, and see new technology. From my experience, every optometrist that I have met at these conferences are willing to help in any way. They are passionate about their profession and only want to better it.
