INTERVIEWED AT UCLA? this is your thread!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I talked to the addmissions office- they told me that they encourage Hold category people to accept other offers if they have them and that people do not generally get in off of the hold list. I do believe that HOLD=rejection, though I think that it is kind of mean to string people along like that.

I still haven't received anything in the mail yet.. go figure. She said rejection, so I assume it's a straight out rejection, not a hold. I'll let you know what my letter says when I get it.

after agonizing the entire day, i finally worked up the nerve to call and i found out my 5/16 letter was a waitlist. so there is still some bit of hope left for those of you still waiting to hear.

good luck to everyone waitlist/hold/rejection or otherwise. for those of you reapplying--much love and support.

keep hope alive people.

so they're actually telling people their status over the phone huh. i wasnt some closure, but i think i'll just wait for the letter eventho it probably won't get here until next tuesday.

Hi everyone, I just got an acceptance letter from UCLA this morning and I didn't interview until 3/21, so I know there are still spaces left for acceptances 🙂 . My status page still hasn't changed and the committee didn't send out the letter until Tuesday. Best wishes to everyone still waiting.

Lily Whites,
That is awesome. See there is still hope for everyone waiting to hear. Good luck to everyone else. One more night of studying and I am done with my first year of medical school.

I just got the UPS acceptance today! I was placed on the unranked waitlist on 3/14 and I didn't interviewed until 3/3! I'm so happy right now. I still can't believe this happened! I definitely didn't have amazing stats. My letter was also dated 5/20, so it's looks like they sent out a few acceptances that day. To all that are still waiting, there is definitely still hope. I never even thought I would get into a medical school. Now I'm going to UCLA! Hold tight everyone, anything can happen! Congrats lillywhites!

congrats lilywhite and t-bruin! i hope more of us get to join you soon!!!!

Good job guys! I'm really happy for you. =)

Congrat's guys...this is all great news.

T-bruin, I went ahead and added your acceptance to the Waitlist movement thread...BTW, did your status change before you recieved your letter?

Lilywhites, Congrats! I don't think I have ever seen you post here, so I was wondering, did you get in directly or off a waitlist?

So excited for you guys!!

OH...by the way, T-bruin--does this mean that you will be giving up your spot at USC??
(i am also wailisted there)😉

I just discovered SDN two weeks ago and thought I would stick around  . UCLA didn't place me on either waitlists. They just took their time deciding I guess...so yup, there's still hope, you can still get accepted straight out 😀.

i just got my letter, unranked waitlist. i'm actually really surprised about it. I'll probably withdraw tho so I don't have it lingering over my head all summer.

Yay, that's really something to celebrate, Moskeeto! Amid all the carnage, unranked waitlist sounds wonderful. Why withdraw??

I just don't think that I have anything to send in to add to my file. no letters of rec, no exciting new things that I've done, so I don't think my chances of getting in are very good, if there's even a chance at all. maybe withdrawing is pretty stupid, but I just don't want to worry all summer about UCLA if there's really no chance for me to get in. its kind of a pre-emptive rejection on my part, i'm afraid they're giong to k-leave me, so i think i should beat them to it. (Okay that was a stupid "So I married an axe murderer" reference and i apologize.) okay, yeah, the more I think about it, it'd be stupid to just not hang out on the waitlist and see what happens. Damn, i'm turning out to be one hell of a rambler.

yes, i will be withdrawing. good luck to you!

oh come on you've gotta be crazy, everyone knows that USC is waaaay better than UCLA. Make the right decision while theres still time. okay, completely unrelated, but i've talked it over with some friends and I've decided to hang out on the WL.

Why is USC better?

USC is way better because Moskeeto wants more spaces to open up at UCLA. 😉

Is anybody nervous about the new curriculum being implemented? I hear it can be real hell for the guinea pig class.

yeah, i think the new cirriculum will scare a couple of people off, but I've talked to a couple of people about it and they all seem to think that it should transition smoothly. My student interviewer siad they were able to give loads of feedback. The new associate Dean at UCD was really involved in creating the cirriculum down at UCLA and he convinced me pretty good that the new stuff should be pretty exciting and again flow smoothly. I was pretty hesitant too, but these two really convinced me even tho i haven't really put any good reasons in this post 🙂. also, the Dean said he was working on UCD's cirriculum so that you're done with M1 and M2 by feb of your second year! that seems quick to me. i trusted him tho cuz he seemed like he really knew his stuff.

Congrads to all those getting in, and for those who are waiting, hang in there! I myself just got pulled from the waitlist.

This is a question for those who were accepted earlier, without being waitlisted. Did you folks get anything else in addition to the actual letter acceptance, like housing info, curriculum change info, important websites, etc? All I received was a letter, and I assume this was the case for the rest of us who got the UPS deliveries...so I'm curious what we're missing out on.

Btw, this is a plug for the new Official Class of '07 Thread, established by antoniop (thanks man!).
If you've got any questions, info, insights, or ideas to share with your new classmates, head over to the link below! 😉

Looking forward to meeting you guys (and I'd appreciate a response to that question above).

UCLA Class of 2007

Here's another "Class of 2007" thread I found, courtesy of subee 🙂 Wow, we rock!

UCLA Class of 2007

hi Yodi, I didn't get anything except an acceptance letter too. I think the acceptance letter said that they would send information on Financial Aid, etc. later, but I figure it's a UC, and it could take a while. I'm calling the Office of Financial Aid on Monday to get access to the online forms and the Admissions Office for pins for the med school housing bulletin boards.

just curious, are any of you guys that have been accepted to UCLA out of state? I'm on the unranked waitlist and am from North Carolina and was wondering what my chances were out of state to get an acceptance. I would love to be out in sunny LA if I get in!

Hi UCLA crew!

I interviewed at USC and UCLA in mid-November, was accepted to USC in mid-February, was waitlisted at UCLA in mid-March, and got off the UCLA waitlist on May 20th! I'm giving up my USC spot, and am soooo excited to have gotten into my 1st choice after this long old process!!!

I am really pumped....good luck to those of you still waiting. It says my decision letter was sent on May 20th, I received it by UPS on the 24th.

I'm an out-of-state applicant.

did you do anything special to get off the waitlist? thanks for the info btw and congrats.

well it seems like UCLA is definitely moving! I wish the other UCs can take that as an example and do the same! Anyways, congrats Miss Dr. and everyone else who got in. I am also interested to know if you did anything special to get in off the waitlist. I already sent updated transcripts and update letters, so I don't know what else one can do to show more interest. I guess a formal letter of intent would work, but I don't know how cheesy that would look when I don't hold any acceptances at other schools.....

Dr. Don, I am in your exact situation. You can't really give a letter of intent if you are only sitting on waitlist. I can say, "well, in the chance that I get into any of my other waitlist, I will certainly go to UCLA." Anyway, they already know that we haven't been accepted anywhere from AMCAS, so it would just be silly...

while we're on the subject, is there any formal way to write a letter of intent? or is it just the "UCLA is my #1 choice" kind of thing?

oh, and is it good or bad to mention where you're holding an acceptance in the letter of intent to say "well, i'm in at this school, but would still rather go to yours"?

I was confused too when i got my acceptance letter last month. They've barely sent out any other information. Two days later I received a document giving a little information on registration, BAR account, and URSA online, with a couple websites, but it's very minimal. I don't even know when they want a deposit. They also sent a CA residency form and intent to register in that mailing. Then last week a couple pages from financial aid. That's it. You have to check the website for all else, and even that's sparse (they're still adding finishing touches to the curriculum). Anyone else received more yet?

UCLA Class of 2007

Hey everyone,
I have a similar question about being on the waitlist and updating your app. I sent letters of intent and extra LORs. Should I now send another letter of intent/update letter?? Just wanted to know what yall think. I started a new job as a medical assistant, so maybe that's worth updating. I just feel like my letters are being ignored. I kinda scared to call, because they aren't too nice there sometimes. Peace people.

hey guys, i know it's super nerve-racking waiting for the waitlist movement...so hold tight! and best of luck to those of you still crossing your fingers to be pulled off....a few comments based on my experience:

1) from talking to the admissions office, i've heard that anywhere from 25-40% of people can be taken off the waitlist in a given year at UCLA. i believe the "first priority" (unranked) waitlist is 100-200 people strong (i know that's a big variance, but i've heard both of those numbers at diff. times). if you're on the "hold" list you most likely will not get in this year.

2) my online status says my "final decision letter" was sent on may 20th, but that wasn't posted until may 23rd, and the actual written letter was sent by saturday delivery on the 24th.

3) i don't know about the other waitlistees who were pulled off the list recently---but i AM in school, so i have had updates to provide...my previous semester's grades, my current semester's coursework, my research (and yeah, i'm in graduate school, not undergrad)

4) being an out-of-state applicant, i made sure to emphasize in my letter of intent why california, esp. SoCal was my # 1 choice. i mean isn't 80% of the incoming class at UCLA in-state? that of course happens for a variety of reasons--but if you're an out-of-stater be sure to mention why you want UCLA specifically, or what draws you to the LA area

5) for those of you asking about whether you should mention what other acceptances or waitlists you're holding----i wouldn't. well, at least, i didn't, and would advise you to make your letter simple and to the point. focus on YOU and UCLA...the rest doesn't matter!

6) since the recent handful of us taken off the list were the first ones picked off post-may 15th---it's a real positive sign of good waitlist movement---but remember that based on posts from other years, they do pick people in june, july, etc as well. although it becomes less and less as the summer goes on, so best of luck in the weeks to come! if you're planning on pushing this issue, i would say do it NOW rather than later!

GOOD LUCK 🙂

congratulations to the newly accepts:clap: your days in limbo is over. do you mind telling us what month you interviewed? i have this disputable theory that the people taken off very early fr the wailist are late interviewees who were stellar apps but weren't able to get outright accepts bec of a full class.

gracias!

miss dr, if you were waitlisted in march, how did you get a letter sent date of may 20? i was also waitlisted in march and my status page has only one slot for "final decision letter sent" and it says march 14. .... just curious as to whether they would add another slot for when the final final decision (whether it be acceptance or rejection) is sent out ....

hey guys...to answer the previous 2 questions:

1) i was a pretty early interviewee---was invited in october, and interviewed at UCLA in mid-November

2) they replaced the march 14th date with the may 20th date when the actual acceptance letter was sent out

thanks ms. dr.🙂

for my fellow waitlistees, until when are you going to wait for ucla? i might give it until middle of july...🙁

just an update - i'm holding a space at UCLA but am waitlisted at a few other schools. So if one of those schools pulls me off their waitlist, I will probably (financial problems barred) give up my spot at LA to go. Now it just depends on when those other waitlists start to move. So keep up hope - it's entirely possible that others are in my situation and that spots will open up at ucla!good luck to everyone - i know, this process sucks.

yeah thanks for the info Ms. Dr.

Moviefreak, same here, I'm thinking either early to mid july. Hopefully one of the UCs will get back to me by then, although if Drew accepts me, I might withdraw because this waiting is just killing me!

a BIG goodluck to us Dr. Don 🙂
i am waiting for drew as well. this whole waiting game has turned me into a workaholic so i can go home dead tired and not have enough energy to obsess on med schools😡 but you know what, i am still checking this website and my status page by the hour. i just want some closure. may the ups come for us soon.

Hey Guys,
Just wanted update everyone...I called the school today and they said that there is no movement on the waitlist right now, but they expect some movement through the month of June.

I know it's not much, but it's all I've got...I'm beginning to feel a little anxious about this waitlist thing....

Good luck to you all

pman, I'm right there with you. waiting bites. but hopefully it'll PAY OFF DAMNIT!

thanks for the update.

it's june so i hope we'll see some fluidity w/ the waitlist...i hope that all those stellar accepts (fr mdapplicants.com) decide to go their other accepts 😎

pman, I'm right there with you. waiting bites. but hopefully it'll PAY OFF DAMNIT! Thanks for the update.

No Problem mkmk. Yeah hopefully it will pay off. Hey, I also noticed you were on the UVM waitlist, I've gotten accepted there and if i dont get off this waitlist that's where I'll go. Since you're on the top third, from what I here you should get accepted. Good LUck!

pman

Anyone else feeling hopeless today...

Yes, UCLAs class is full, but they expect more movement in June. Oh yeah, it's June already, has anyone heard anything lately?

CCHieb's

You could call and see if your file is with the admissions office or under review with the committee. I called yesterday and got the nice lady who was able to tell me. Might make you feel better since you're actually doing something! 😛

hey peeps I also got the nice lady too. She said that there are about 200 people on the alternate list (1st priority), well 200 is what they start with, and throughout the years about half of the list gets pulled, so in other words potentially 100 people from the list will be accepted to UCLA! That's great news  but I was thinking that number is a little to high, and she was saying that we have to keep in mind that of those people who get in off the waitlist, some of them have already chosen where they want to go, so they don't accept their position at UCLA and the list keeps moving....good news for us! Anyways, if you need to send update letters or whatever, you should definitely do that! take care,

I have a question (and I know that i will only be getting theories here) about how the committee reviews your file for the WL.

So, by telling you that your application is "in review", does that mean that they have yet to re-review all the files after the waitlist season began? That would then indicate that they have accepted people off the WL without reviewing everyone's file to date...that don't seem right!

SO to clarify: if they ARE currently reviewing your file, does it mean that they are
1: re-re-reviewing it since the WL began to move, or
2: reviewing it for the first time since the WL season began?

It seems like they would have reviewed all the first priority waitlist files and come up with some sort of "ranking" before letting people in off this waitlist. Am I totally wrong and stupid to believe that?

Please entertain me!

CCHieb's

the waitlist is ranked, they just won't tell you that! Think about it, how can they re-review all 200 people in a few days and accept some peeps only a few days after may 15th, it's impossible! So the way I understand it is that we have all received a score after interviewing, and we made it to the alternate list (1st priority list) then Dr. Parker and his executive committee goes through the list (ranked) and reviews those files, as he reviews and checks how the other admissions commitees ranked (remember UCLA has more than just one committee, however it is THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE headed by Dr. Parker that makes all final decisions on acceptances!), he chooses to accept you or keep you on the waitlist and the reviewing goes on. For all we know, we might have been reviewed already CCHieb's and Dr. Parker chose to skip us and continue reviewing other people on the list. Truth of the matter is that WE ARE ALL QUALIFIED, so now Dr. Parker is probably looking for other aspects of our app that he thinks will add diversity and other things to the class!

On another note, it is the EXECUTIVE committee that also decides on Drew Acceptances, so that's also going to take some time from reviewing the waitlist files. anyways, hope that helps CCHieb's. good luck all!
