I got invites from Cleveland and Emory today. I'm a mess -- mixture of excitement and intimidation. I'm looking forward to the next day to see what it will bring. Man, I would be enjoying myself this weekend if it wasn't for the piling workload at my probably number one visiting elective. I love it though. Bring it on!
That's the attitude! Bring the pain!

UNC by snail mail today. There was no ERAS message or email. They provide accommodations for one night which will really help out. So to summarize...

UAB
Emory
UNC

Now just gotta get that last LOR in and maybe some more will be on the way.

UAB... I wish they'd just download my application. You'd think being from UAB they'd download it from the get-go. Alas, there is not getting or going for me. It's a shame since they have one of the better programs in the southeast.

It is really weird how some programs download some programs but not others. This has happened to me too. You would think they would just download everybody's at once.

Vanderbilt by email today. I almost deleted it because there was no subject line, so make sure you check your emails carefully if you apply there!

By the way, would it be terrible of me to ask Emory to please move my interview date so I can do Vandy, UAB, and Emory all around the same time? It would sure cut down on my travel expenses.

Stanford by e-mail yesterday. I am sooooooooooo excited!!! 🙂

MUSC and Vandy yesterday by e-mail. I almost tossed out the Vandy invite too thinking it was junk mail.

So far my interview list is: Iowa, New Mexico, Emory, Vermont, Utah, MUSC, and probably Vandy. Decided not to visit South Dakota or Cleveland.

Now to try an organize airfare/hotel rooms/etc! Good luck to everyone!

MUSC by e-mail yesterday and Florida by snail mail.

BIDMC by e-mail, hope to meet some of you in the interview trail 🙂

Did anyone on here apply to anywhere on west coast (mainly California)? For some reason, I feel like I am the only one waiting on those programs!!

I applied to UCSF and Stanford and haven't heard from either.

U Chicago, CWRU Cleveland, and Methodist Houston this week. Feel a little nervous to go to the North in November. I haven't seen snow for almost 10 years.

I have been wondering why UPenn hasn't downloaded my stuff. Then I realized that I applied to the "Pennsylvania Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Health System" instead of "University of Pennsylvania Program." Both in Philadelphia. 😡

Just forked over another $15 to add UPenn to the list.

$15? That's nothing. I just threw in $175 to add 7 programs to my list. If none of them calls I'll be really pissed.

This is probably a good time of the year to once again put out the reminder that anything you read on SDN is worth what you paid for it 😉

When someone asks a question that the other posters don't know much about, one of two things happens:

(1) People either don't respond since they don't have information, or
(2) they do the best they can by reporting what they know (which may sometimes be hearsay) and qualify it by saying how they got their information.

SDN may help you get additional information besides what you already know, but certainly no one should be making a decision re: where to go for residency based on the occasionally quite random opinions posted here.

UTSouthwestern, phone call from PD

Hi Irena, I also got the phone call from Dr. Timmons of UTSW. But I was in the gym and didn't get the chance to talk with him. Have you scheduled your interview? When I asked they listed 10 different dates in January alone (Jan03-Jan13) for me to pick! And there are even more available dates in December and November. I guess they must plan to interview hundreds of people.

UAB finally downloaded my application. Punks. I got invites at Utah, UAB, and Stanford this past week. Wee. So, first week into October and I'm going to be flying all over the place.

Emory
Cleveland Clinic
Utah
UAB
Stanford

Hey, HappyPanda,
I also didn't get a chance to talk to UTSW PD, he left a message. I scheduled this interview on November 4. I'd like to get done with most of the interviews in November (got 6 so far, but hope for more!)
BTW, any of you who got an invite from New Mexico got an interview confirmation? All I got was an invitation e-mail, nothing else. No one answeres my e-mails, no one picks up the phone there. 😕

Vanderbilt by email.

Congrats!
I got an invite from Vandy today too! Yale and Ohio also sent invites... still waiting on about 12 other schools. Sigh.

HMMMMMM. Still no word for me. :scared:

...fortunately, my elective in dermatopathology is keeping me busy. I think I've learned more in 1 week than I did in 3 years of medical school!! 👍 PATH ROCKS!!

Stanford by email a couple days ago. It's good to see SDN is back online...

I think someone makes this post every year - for some reason a lot of the california programs are later to the table.

Medical College of Virginia by e-mail yesterday and University of Mississippi by phone.

Ohio State yesterday by e-mail. Congrats to everyone on their invites! I hope to meet some of you on the interview trail 🙂

MUSC by email, prior to the server's demise. 😎

Thank you! 🙂 After I posted that, later on in the week, I did hear from Cedar-Sinai and UC Irvine. That still leaves UCSF, UC Davis, UCLA and UCSD... 😕

I think you'll have a great time! Just be yourself--you'll learn a TON!
Where are you going to be?

Don't panic about the CA programs...they seem to take their sweet time. If you haven't heard from them by the first week in November, start badgering them (politely of course).

From the past 2 weeks, I've heard from Wash U, SLU, and Northwestern, all by email. Still waiting to hear from UTSW. I'm starting to worry.

👍 thanks a lot, brian!! sdn forums a.k.a support groups for the nervous really help ease the tension!god bless all of you!!
i will be in a university affiliated-community program,and had a few doubts:
1) how much am i expected to know?i understand it helps to have reviewed a bit for the conferences..
2) does it really matter whether the experience is at a univ or a community program?
3)how and where can i show my interest? i went through the posts about rotations in general, and the main motifs i could gather were " be easy to get along with", "appear and be interested" and "don't be gunner-ish".however, i want to make the most out of this experience,so that even if they don't select me, they would atleast give me a good letter of reco.how do i do this without getting in the way, and putting off the residents?
am i over-thinking a simple issue as usual? 😳

Answer when they ask you questions/call on you, and not when they don't.
Ask questions at appropriate times.

You know that stuff 🙂

As a med student most places if you can even ID the site for the mystery slide in question, you're doing good.

Is there anyone there who already knows that you're interested in going into path? It might be worth a try to tell a friendly resident that you're interested in path as a career and ask their advice as to how to get the most out of your rotation, and who to target for a letter (I don't know what the work cycle is like or what you're observing in - presumably surg path? - but sometimes the resident can look at the sign-out schedule for you and see which student-friendly attending you will be most frequently on with; you can then work with that to try to get a good letter).

thanks! 👍
i got to know a fellow, who seems very friendly, and more importantly has done her residency here..she advised me to get to know the place first, see where the boundary lines lie for about a week or so..then talk to her about what i can do..
i am scheduled to be attached to the chief resident, and he's setting my schedule.from what i heard, its going to be touching on as many aspects as possible..couldn't meet him yet though.
but its a boost to see your confidence in me knowing stuff.. 😀

Anyone heard from MGH yet?

No word yet from the mighty MGH. Hoping to hear sooner rather than later (whether is is an invite or a rejection) since if I get an invite I really want to try and schedule it with BWH so I can make one expensive trip instead of two expensive trips. 🙁

Yeah, in the same boat here... it's kinda hard to schedule it all for one $400 ticket 😉 Hopefully soon!

Congratulations to everyone on all of their interviews so far!!!

Agreed! They really don't expect you to be able to diagnose on day one. I was recently at my first Liver signout on Friday (I'm in dermpath, so I just started going to some afternoon surg path activities), and the attending knew right away that there was someone new with them (she was most welcoming, by the way 👍 ), and there really were no questions directed to me. However, there was a student who had been there for a couple of weeks, and she did ask him to describe what he was seeing (he had been there for 2 weeks already). Very low-stress and high-yield.

Talk to as many residents as you can, and have fun!

Also applied to CWRU, CCF, no invite or reject from them either. Maybe, I'm on the waiting list. Any comments?

Got invites from Mt Sinai, and UWisc!

Congrats to the ones who get the invites.

got invites from Cornell and Columbia last week. Has anybody heard from any of the other NYC programs?

cornell by email today.
