Interviews at Loma Linda

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Appeal, it is worth your time, especially since it is your number one school.

should i appeal??? honestly this was the one school i wanted to go to, and i've been sooo crushed now.... does anyone know how to appeal and if it's a good idea for llu??
btw when i called to see why i was rejected, they told me "class stats for the last class at llu: mcat average 29, sci gpa 3.6, total gpa 3.7". too bad it doesnt explain why i was rejected! 🙁

Hey Californiabound-
Have any of your classmates received waitlist letters from LLU? I was just wondering if any other waitlist letters had gone out and I thought you might know. Thanks.

Haven't heard of anyone getting a waitlist letter. Everyone is either still waiting to hear or has been rejected/accepted. if something changes i'll be sure and let y'all in on the news. Congrats to those accepted and my deepest symathy to those who didn't. i would def appeal....it doesn't hurt anything...and who is to say it couldn't help? :luck:

If you don't mind me asking, do you live close to Loma Linda? I just checked the mail and no letter from LLU. I still haven't received a letter or a call from them and I live in California. I love trying to guess what is going on with the admissions committee. My new theory: Dr. Nyirady has lost my phone number.

I live in houston texas.

so for those people currently accepted, what is the current tuition and fees? Also how much is on campus housing? I was trying to search their website but it is not that informative. Thanks!

There is a lot of housing info on the web site
http://www.llu.edu/llu/housing/

As far as tuition, it went up $1000 from last year, so tuition and fees combined are $33,500 this year, plus $3,200 estimated for books and supplies.

So, by the time I finish my residency, I'll have $250k in debt :scared:

That's what I keep telling myself! I've done the math a few times, and the payments will be over $3000 a month for a decade. If that doesn't make you :scared:, check your pulse!

Thanks! Wow I hope I get in that is a lot cheaper than my current acceptance, why is is only about $4000/year to live on campus while for chicago (RFU) the rent is $10,000/year. But of course cost is not the only reason I want to go to LLU.

Well I heard (maybe on this board) that the on-campus apartments are full with a long waiting list. I don't know if I could go back to dorm living, but it is so cheap that I'm giving it a lot of thought.

Has anyone heard back off the waiting list yet? I have been on the list for two weeks and haven't heard anything.

pretty much everything in the Inland Empire is cheaper than most places.

two weeks is hardly long to be on a wait list. try six months for some people.

No way! Have you ever looked at apartment prices in Bama billybama? $400/month will get you a decent place.

true. true. i was referring to california. (comparing to where the other med schools are--los angeles, irvine, san diego, san francisco and palo alto are all sky high. davis might be more comparable to loma linda. but, yeah, out of state is another story.

Does anyone know from last year's thread or before if there is any indications when and how people get in from the waiting list. The waiting list thread of course does not have Loma Linda, so I was just curious if anyone has noticed anything from the threads in the years past?

the 909 is a lot cheaper than most parts of Cali, I would not be bummed at all to have to pay those prices.

Does anyone know if the athletic complex by LLU is free for students and possibly their spouses?

Those facilities looked really nice, that would be rad if they are free.

Have a good day

Anyone heard anything thats on the waitlist for Loma Linda...?

Last year, it didn't seem like there was much movement until the first of July. All I know is that the sooner the better, I'm dying here

I haven't heard of anyone being moved off the waitlist. If I remember correctly I think the athletic complex is free to students but I'm not sure about spouses.

I interviewed at LLU on April 6th; I still haven't heard anything back from them. Does anybody know why that is? Is anybody else in my situation, or has been in my situation?
What is LLU's waitlist like?

Hey bro,

I interviewed in March, and didn't get a response until the first of May. I am on the waitlist, freak me, but I haven't heard of any movement off of it. I am really hoping to get in, if not I'll be pumped to go to SLU. Have you gotten in anywhere?

I interviewed on Jan 11th and heard on Feb 16th so you are still in good shape. I believe the adcom meets either once or twice a month so you might be hearing soon if they got to your file. If you really want to go there you might want to send a LOI like others on SDN.

That is funny, the other school that I am waitlisted for is SLU. I still have not heard anything back from them yet. however, I really want to go to LLU. I sent a letter of continued interest; is that the same as a Letter of Intent, or should I write another letter?

I just received a waitlist letter today. I was expecting a rejection letter since others recieved waitlist letters quite awhile ago. I'm happy and not complaining. I'll just keep waiting.

I also received a waitlist letter today. I was expecting a rejection as well, even though I felt really good about my interviews. It seemed if you waited a long time for your reply then it was a bad sign; I guess that was wrong. Let's hope the waitlist gets some movement this year.

paceac and gojonn,

A waitlist position is good news because you still have a chance to get in, you two should probably send updates since you just were officially notified of your waitlist status.

montypython-
Thanks for the advice. I just sent an update letter to LLU.

Paceac, I waiting right along side you bro, I still think we have a decent chance! Good luck to you, let me know if you hear again.

Its great to have such nice people in the same boat as you. I'll let you know as soon as I hear something. I hope to see you at LLU next year.

Have you been accepted elsewhere? Or is it LLU or bust? I am really hoping for LLU, its close to home and I loved the people there. If I don't get off the waiting list, I am headed for SLU.

What about me? I am here too. I'm chill. 🙂

Nope, I haven't been accepted elsewhere so its LLU or bust (aka reapply next year). I also really liked LLU and I hope I will end up there either this year or if not, next year. When does SLU start? I hope they let you know soon.
