Interviews

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Today: BWH/MGH, Brown
So Far: SUNY Stony Brook, North Shore, NYU/Bellvue, UMD, Yale

Would very much like to hear from St. Lukes-Roosevelt!! We'll see considering it seems they only have one or two more interview spots open...

There are only a few spot for those that have recieved invitations. There is a small reserve that will probably go out over the next 2 mos... there is still a stack that needs PD review.

Hey everybody, what programs are on your current 'Most Wanted' list? Which programs are you biting your nails over?

Me: NYU, UCLA-Harbor, Univ Chicago, Stanford, GWU

Where's the love??? 😉

Current most wanted? More time and money to take care of these interviews! At this point, I'm mostly waiting on U of Arizona - the big one I'd been waiting on came yesterday: Indiana.

Today: U of Kentucky

Cool. Seems like we're applying and interviewing at a lot of the same places. BTW, I got the invite from the BU medicine prelim year. I imagine they coordinated this with the Boston Medical Center invite since that program is a 2,3,4.

14 so far, maybe time to start cutting back?

Biting nails over: BIDMC, Harbor, Denver, NYU, and Alameda.

Univ Chic is a great program, rotated thru there. Loved it there. Good luck with them. My fingers are crossed for eveyone (when I'm not biting them). Also exctied to have heard from SLR and BWH/MGH. 🙂

Comedy...I just realized I didn't apply to Univ Chic. I thought I did. Anyone know their cut off date?

University of Chicago and Boston Medical Center Yesterday.
Yale Today.

Brings me to 14
(edit I mean 15, I cant count, at least I was low this time and it all evens out)

- So now begins the calls to cancel interviews.
Any advice on how to do this without causing offense?

Drexel (MCP Hahnemann) today.

I need to sit down and think about cuts too. I applied to too many programs, because at the time I didn't sit down and think about what was important to me. All I did was postpone the headache. Also, my Dean told me that I was a "mediocre" med student and should apply to a lot of programs. Which ones, I asked? "Middle of the road ones." Did wonders for my confidence, especially considering that none of my EM evals were in.

Now Pitt.

Things continue to accelerate.

UPenn today. 👍

Are you calling all these places EM, or sitting back and letting them come to you? Just curious...

Hey, WMH, no i'm just waiting on e-mails. I haven't been contacting programs myself. You?

I haven't really. There are a few that I really want to hear from that have sent out a fair amount of invites that I think I may call just to see what's going on and let them know I'm interested if they are.

I did call GW today and they said, although they have sent out a few invites they really haven't begun to offer most of their spots.

Hey just a thought. For those of us who aren't receiving as many interviews. 🙁 Please cancel early!!!! Please don't wait until the last minute. This will give the programs time to reschedule. I have heard of a few students who wait until the last minute to cancel and that is a spot somebody else could have interviewed in. 😍
Those of us who aren't gettin' as much love would like to have your leftovers.

Doh! The cali-smackdown has commenced. 🙁 Denied by Alameda. 🙁

Hope you guys have better luck there than I; what a great program. *sigh*

Mucho dolor...

Application year 2004/2005

The review of your application to the Alameda County Medical Center/Highland
Hospital Emergency Medicine residency is complete.

Unfortunately, we are unable to grant your request for an interview at this
time. This year has seen an unprecedented number of outstanding applications. While we regret not having the chance to meet you in person, the restraints
of time and personnel force us to make many difficult decisions at this early
stage of the process. Please understand that in a typical year, we are able
to interview fewer than 20% of interested candidates.

We regret having to adopt this policy. Thank you for your interest in our
program and best wishes for your ongoing training in Emergency Medicine.

Thanks! I know it's no big deal, but darnit I do like the Bay area. 😉 I may have to reconsider my "lucky" levitating buddha... 😎

You too! Hey, "misery" loves company, right?? 😀

Seriously though, I don't envy those committee members. It's gotta be tough trying to choose from so many great candidates out there. All the folks I know that are going into EM are pretty solid. I don't think I could choose between them!

I know...I think EM is going to extremely competitive this year. Even more than usual. Seems like a ton of really solid people are heading that direction.

That's what we say every year, but every year it seems to be about the same. Chalk it up to nerves.

Highland gave me the smackdown as well. Oh well....Anyway, I don't think EM is going to be any more particularly competitive this year than it was last year or the year before. If anything, it peaked a year ago. Good luck everyone, and I think that we will all end up happy in the end!
