do a lot of programs send out invites via snail mail? i am going to be out of town a lot, it seems like that is a much slower route (and less reliable) of reaching people?!!!

Hey all,
I have been insanely jealous of everyone else's interviews, so I am happy to finally be able to add a few. I got two today...from Brigham and Women's and the Scott and White program in Temple, TX

Can't wait to meet you guys on the trail.

So when you guys are mentioning invitations, are these truly we'd like you to interview emails or rather, we're looking at your invitation these are our intended interview dates and we'll mail you an official invite once we receive the Dean's Letter?

I've received several emails about we're looking at your app and here are our intended interview dates (same thing or not)?

Hospitals I've received info from:

UAB
Kalamazoo
Indianna
Alabama
Beth Israel

For me at least these are we would like to interview you, schedule a date.

Emory and Beth Israel have sent me emails saying we have looked at your stuff and wanted to say hi.

I received interview invites and have scheduled dates with Vandy and Orlando. I got the hey how's it going e-mails form Emory and UAB. Also, I noticed you listed UAB and Alabama separately. Just for the record, if the UAB you're referring to is the University of Alabama in Birmingham, it's the only EM residency in Alabama. There's a medical school down in Mobile (Univ of South Alabama) but they don't have an EM residency.

Slow start, but hopefully more to come...

Good luck, everyone. Enjoy the travel! 🙂

I finally got my first EM interview: Univ Michigan this AM! 🙂 Seems they downloaded my final LOR just before sending the invite.

hey all,

first of all, i just want to say that everyone here sounds really great and supportive! what a great community!! 😍 i'm sure i'll be posting a lot.

i only just sent in my application last friday (i know, pretty late, but i had my reasons). every one of my programs except for baystate has downloaded my available documents, which as of now incl only 2 of 4 LOR's that i have designated. anyone know approx. how long i should expect to hear about a first interview, or do you think that it'll be no joy until nov. 1? does having only having 2 letters up right now hurt me in terms of getting an interview?

and how do i light the fire under the tushies of those 2 straggling letter writers without coming off as desperate/anxious/wacko?

THANKS everyone!

Welcome to the boards! Having the 2 of 4 LOR's shouldn't hurt you too much. I've only got 2 of 4 turned in right now. As for how to get the last 2 written I can't help you there. I've already sent the polite reminder thank you note, but with no results so far.

Beth Israel Deaconess just now.

I thought it was a reach, must have been a clerical error.

Hope everyone else is getting good news.

Just received interview from Rochester.

LSU Charity this morning. It seems like the interview committees are all getting up and running.

Now Brigham and Women's Hospital/Massachusetts General. These last few days have been crazy.

Continued good luck to everyone on the boards (well thats not true, good luck even if youre not)

Does anyone have an interview scheduled for before November 1?

The letter from Indiana said the AAMC (or someone involved with match process) has asked that invitations not be sent out until after this date. Does anyone know about an official "start date"?

Take care,
Jeff

Isn't BIDMC only a couple years old? Are they very competitive?

Long Island Jewish Medical Center this afternoon.

Yes, BIDMC is a young program, and yes, it's competitive. I was extremely impressed by BIDMC last year and ranked it number 2. I am at my number 1, but would have been thrilled at BIDMC. After you start interviewing, you will find the programs that are right for you, but noone who gets an offer from BIDMC should pass it up unless they have absolutely no intention of living in Boston (which, by the way, is a great city)
