are most of you IMG sor AMGs ?

please tell me you are AMGs so i can worry less......

AMG. Coolbabe - Don't worry too much, there are a ton of people who haven't heard anything. Lots of places wait for completed applications. I know it's hard, but give it time - they'll come through! 🙂

thank you so much for the kind words of encouragement.i hope from the coming week things start moving .... 🙁

don't worry! i talked to a PD this weekend...he said they haven't even really begun to look at apps, and wait til Nov 1 for dean's letters. most schools have not begun inviting yet!

thanks neil...
i hope so too.

i had a question for everyone here.i have come up with a better PS after applying to 20 programs.can i replace the old PS with the new one?is it allowed
?
will it be viewed well?

or will it hurt more than do good?

essentiallly how important is a PS in making or breaking an application?

please reply guys. 😕

I am a DO student. I hope to get more invites as well but am happy that I am starting a high intensity rotation tomorrow so I can stop checking my email like a mad woman looking for invites!!!!!

I have finally decided to register for this forum although I have been reading for some time.

First off...I am a 4th year med student applying for OB/GYN residency. I would like to wish you all the best of luck with residency application and interview process.

In response to the question about CA programs, I interviewed at USC while on an away and was told that other than people rotating at the hospital, no invites are sent out until after Nov 1.

😀 I'm so glad to hear someone else feels the same compulsion! I take step 2 tomorrow and start a busier rotation in Oct.
Till then ....must..stop..checking..email (and eras for that last letter!)
Oh yeah - three more: Christiana, VCU and ETSU! 🙂 Starting to get excited - this is actually happening!
And Coolbabe - don't worry about it! 🙂 It's still really early. - AMG

I actually edited my personal statement last week and replaced the one I had previously assigned to programs by simply reassigning the new one. I don't think it will be a big deal. I just made my a bit shorter. I don't think a new personal statement will hurt things - they may not even notice.

I think you are fine ...

Anyone know receive a University of Washington invite without having a completed application? My 3rd letter writer is dragging his feet and I'm freaking out.

Heard back:
Dartmouth/Hitchcock
Northshore/LIJ

p.s. I was warned to stay away from programs with less than 2500 deliveries. Dartmouth is just shy of 2500 across 2 sites. Has anyone heard that this low procedural number is problematic for the residents there? Everything else about the program sounds so strong.

Got an invite from William Beaumont hospital in Royal Oak, MI.

My UWash invite came before my application was complete.

I'm on derm right now and I don't have anything to study for (except Step 2, which I am taking in December so the studying isn't happening yet). So all I do is check MyERAS and my e-mail for interview invites. My 4th LoR was uploaded today and DLed by the program that wanted it so now the only I can do is wait. Everything is done. Even my Dean's Letter has been uploaded, but no one can DL it until 11/1 of course. So I am going out of my mind. I am even reading nonschool books to take my mind of my neurosis. So those of you who worry, you are not alone.

first rejection recieved. baylor. ouch!

kem, where are you? how could you let this happen to me?!?!?!? 🙂

is it just me, or was this a slow week? i heard nada, except the rejection. october is just around the corner, so hears to more invites! i need about 5 more to be comfortable and 10 more to be ecstatic....

Here's what I have so far with no recommendation letters in...

Emory
St. Louis University
Medical College of Toledo
University of Cincinnati
William Beaumont

Sorry to hear about that, neilc. Did you get it via email? Did they give you a reason? I think I'd rather just never hear from a program than get a rejection. Yikes!

This week has been painfully slow! I only got one interview this week. I have to keep telling myself, "It's still early. It's still early."

Should we expect most of our invites in October/November?

Have a great night!

As I recall last year there were quite a few who didn't send out invites until after the dean's letters were in. It is within general etiquette to send a note to the program if you haven't heard from them within a few weeks of the dean's letter. I did this last year and got an interview out of the deal.

Good luck.
Don't forget about Orlando Regional when sending in applications!!

well, i prefer the email rejection. if i am VERY interested in a program, i will send a follow up after the rejection to express my regret, and reiterate my sincere interest in that specific program, and offer to be available if they still have any interview spots. it can't hurt, and i think adding a little personal touch makes it tougher to reject. just my way of handling it...

they didn't give a reason, just said they were unable to offer an invite, best of luck.

i am hoping that october heats up. i had a lot of action the first few weeks, wound up with seven solid interviews, which is great! but, i still have a few out there that i am hoping will hop on it in october. at this rate, i will have a full schedule before dean's letter (i hope!)...

best of luck everyone!

I has really been a slow week. I haven't had any interview offers thus far this week. I guess my name mean's patience for a reason..........

hi all,

first time on this forum...what a great resource!

quick question regarding LOR's

1) is it ok to send all OB/GYN letters, or should i throw in at least 1 non-obgyn letter?

2) are you guys closing or opening them? i heard some say it matters, while others say it doesn't....personally, i like reading them!

-thanks!

If you waive your right to read the letter it gives significantly more credibility to that letter. I have heard through the grape vine that some programs will not even consider a letter if you didn't waive your right to read it. Personally, I wouldn't risk it. Waive your right to read them... but only ask letter writers who act enthusiastic about writing you a letter!

My school will send us the .pdf files of our letters if we ask for them. I didn't waive my right to read mine-- I didn't send out any cover letters asking for LoR's, I asked attendings directly on the last day of the rotation and followed up through e-mail. So I've read all mine and it's a good thing too. Sometimes the letter will be going great until you get to something like "Student needs to work on presentation of patients" which although true is not something I want in my letter, ya know? Or the case of getting along great with an attending and they say they'll write you a glowing LoR and it's so boring and geberic you want to vomit. Versus the "I don't know if I should ask this person because..." and they write you a letter that makes it lookl ike you walk on water. Or what I just had happen. "Oh *you* just write the letter, e-mail it to me and I'll print it out on letterhead and sign it." Um...

I have a non-ob/gyn letter. Several, in fact, but only one I used. Some programs want a non-ob/gyn letter. Look on the program website or call and ask if it doesn't say there. Mine was a good letter (even though my name was misspelled (sp) one and spelled correctly the other time...) so I figured it'd add something about the rest of my medical ability. I mean, they know we'll get great ob/gyn letters so... I dunno. Just my thoughts.

i read all my letters. i waived on one, but the attending sent it directly to me, non-sealed, so i saw that one too. oopsie. but, it hasn't hurt me at all, only one rejection, 9 invites now.

i have one letter from the ob/gyn chair at my school in CR, one from a department chair in the US, and one from a FP program director in the US. all are solid letters, i think. i think it is a good mix, and a good idea to get one from another specialty, but somebody high up that chooses residents and can attest to the fact that you will be a good one.

ahh...just as the week was finishing, i got another invite. stoker, it sorta offsets my rejection earlier this week, at least.

sorry, because i am not really annonymous, i don't like to put out exactly where my invites are. but, this recent one is a NJ program, if that helps.

can i ask where/how did you get a rejection already? was it on eras....was it a very competitive program? now you have me worried...

thanks for bringing up a painful subject! lol, jk 🙂

i posted it about a page back...i got a reject from baylor. i was a bit surprised by it, but what the heck. i have been having good luck recently, so i was able to deal with it. if i didn't have a good number of interviews i may have had a panic attack.

they sent it via ERAS and email.

i would'nt worry. all of us will prob be getting lots of interviews mixed in with a few rejections.,.such is life, eh?

Neil, was that the Baylor in Houston or dallas? Just wondering cause I applied to both and have not heard anything yet. I applied to 15 programs but no invitations. Maybe because my photo, letters and transcripts are not uploaded yet.

G man

baylor houston. my app is complete, prob why i have heard already. no news is good news, right?!

good luck with the invites

Neil,

hey don't worry about baylor! I just got a rejection too. I know it hurts. The place I got it from -- I had just added in the mix as back-ups to insure I got in somewhere.. So I was supprised -- I only submittted my app on Sunday -- but I got some really good invites this week... from much better name schools than the reject place.

bu ti'm sure lotz of ppl are getting a reject here or there.

take care!

hi snow,
i had the same experience (rejected from a sub-par program with interview invites from competitive ones)...it kind of doesn't make sense. i am thinking about calling and asking why the rejection just in case there is some glaring ommision that i am unaware of. have any of you heard of this before -- having good board scores, grades, letters, and rejected in a week from a sub-par program? oh well. at least we can comiserate together 🙁

UT San Antonio came today
UTMB Galveston
UTMB Austin
UNM

I got e-mails from UW and U of Colorado that they got my app. In fact, Colorado only just downloaded my application yesterday.

I have a story about Baylor Houston. Made me end up not applying there. I was supposed to do an audition rotation there in August and I ended up deciding to come home to AZ about 16 hours before my rotation was to begin. At any rate, I wouldn't be sad about not interviewing there, except for the expense of applying.

Interviews:
Med College of Wisconsin
Wash U (St Louis)
UMKC
Nebraska
William Beaumont (MI)
Vanderbilt
University Hospitals in Cleveland

Rejected:
University of Missouri - Columbia

Let me know if you want dates

Hi! I'm applying to the similar schools (southeast), but I'm new to this forum. Just sent the apps last week and two interviews: Fort worth and Pensacola. How does everyone feel about community programs? I'm trying for a university program... 👍 👎
