maybe I should find a good way to ask 'is this a nice way to say nevermind or if I could actually come, am I still invited?'

caffeinebean said:hi everyone, i'm kind new to the boards (well, i've been reading for a few weeks but this is my first post).
i have an interview at temple on mon the 3rd, anyone else interviewing that slot? i've seen a bunch of fridays on here!
has anyone heard anything from arizona st, uwashington, or u of denver? did anyone apply to unlv? if so, does anyone know what's going on with accreditation?
this whole process is driving me nuts! it's good to have people to be nuts with![]()
UVAHoo said:I'm in total shock. I posted previously that I ran into an interview weekend conflict but that the lady at Vanderbilt was really nice about it and said they were looking into alternate times for interviews and that the day they picked must have been popular. She said she was going to get back to me yesterday. I didn't hear anything all day yesterday or today so I sent her a brief email checking in with her and saying again how I looked forward to meeting her and how I thought her work matched my interests well.
So her reply was unfortunately they won't be able to bring me in for an alternate date as they are forced to make these difficult decisions among several good candidates.
They took back their interview because I already committed to another one!
I just don't even know what to say, I don't understand why she told me they had even discussed an alternate date. I wonder if she invited whoever else she was going to and they wowed her on the phone (in hindsight I thought I could have been better on the phone). I'm not sure what to do... Their date is Feb 10th, my Penn State interview stuff starts the morning of the 11th- the 10th was a pizza party. For a second I debated trying to go to Nashville the 10th and leave that night for Penn State and miss the pizza party. I'm just not sure I want to do that though, it would be expensive, hard to pull off, and I feel like I would be begging her to give me another chance (I mean even if I offered that she might still say no, that's ok). I mean I was really excited about Vanderbilt, but I kind of have a bad taste in my mouth now. And I couldn't even put one program over the other without visiting, both professors of interest seemed like a really good fit (working with different populations but still both good). I'm sorry for the really long post, I just wanted to know if anyone had anything to say... My friend here just told me to not worry about it and say I'm sorry to hear that, please let me know if that does change- I'm still willing to come at an alternate time.
UGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!
(ps not sure if it makes a different but the lady is new there, so I did wonder how that would be different)

Hey Joetrojoetro said:This probably depends by school, but I was under the impression that some of those social events were actually sneaky "interviews" by graduate students ... i.e. to report back to their advisor if a person was really aloof, drunk, providing totally conflicting information, asking inappropriate questions, etc. I'm sure that graduate students have some say in the process - after all, they have a stake in who their labmates are.

zbombvt said:Slightly off topic, but has anyone else received an e-mail from Suffolk (arrived today) about the OUTREACH Fellowship? It basically says that although no admision decisions have been made that if you want to get a Fellowship you should apply now.
Now, the deadline is 2/17, and the latest you should hear about interviews is 2/15. I know I shouldn't be looking too much into this, but does it make sense that they would tell people who they weren't accepting/interviewing to even bother applying for fellowships?
Anyone else receive this e-mail who applied to Suffolk?
Rxxx said:How was your interview. Please share your experience with us. All the best for next interview.
clinpsychgirl said:Hey forensic, Congrats on your interview! If I were you, I'd go- as long as it doesn't conflict with another interview date- it could be another great option! Good luck!
Cajal said:Hi - Can you let us now when and how they contacted you please?
Thanks!

clinpsychgirl said:To those of you interviewing at Temple (with an interest in staying with a graduate student), did you guys get assigned one to stay with yet?
I ask because I replied to Dr. Fauber sort of late, so I might be out of the running- but I wanted to know if anyone heard one way or another. If it seems like they've been booked up, I am going to have to reserve a hotel...
Thanks!
konrad said:I received invitations from Berkeley and Drexel last week. I think the common wisdom that people don't hear from clinical programs until February no longer holds. At least 6 out of 9 of the programs I applied to have made invitations (not necessarily to me) now, with everybody interviewing in February. It's going to be a freakish month of travel. Maybe it has to do with the programs that I picked, some kind of non-random sample thing.

clinpsychgirl said:Haha, interviews conveniently located on the other sides of the country no less!
I feel you on the month of February- so far I'm out about 700 dollars in traveling expenses 😱 ...and I haven't even MADE it to these places yet.
I must say though, I think you did a damn good job picking your programs if the interview dates don't conflict with other programs! I'm surprised you haven't had to turn anything down. I guess it will be a crazy but awesome month for you. Good luck!

psychgal said:I also applied to the University of Arkansas. Thanks for the update. It makes the waiting more bearable. Miami University in Ohio is currently reviewing files. Offers have not gone out yet. Baylor's interview offers will go out the week of February 6th for a February 24th, 25th, or 27th interview. Has anyone heard from Kent State, Bowling Green or UVA-Curry?
joetro said:I received an interview today from Colorado March 4, but unfortunately there is a conflict, so I'm trying to come the day before.
caffeinebean said:Cajal, i was contacted by phone on saturday morning (completely unexpected, i usually switch from my i-hope-i-hear-about-an-interview mode to my relaxed mode on weekends, but now i know better!)
i also received an email from a prof u of washington (seattle - child clinical) today about a phone interview this week. anyone else hear from this program? if so, is everyone conducting phone interviews or are some people doing in-person interviews? does this depend on the prof or does this mean they may not be considering me as seriously as others? i hope it's the former!
PsychMode said:I too received an email from a professor at U of Washington (adult clinical) regarding a phone interview. I'm going to go with the flow, as anything could happen. Congratulations caffeinebean!
Mell-Dogg said:I got an invite to Bowling Green! I was contacted by the graduate secretary and the interview date is Feb. 24th.
psychgal said:Congratulations!!!!!! I applied to the developmental program there and I was told yesterday that I do not have to interview, that I will simply get an acceptance or rejection. I hope your interview goes fantasticlly well. 🙂 That is a very popular date for interviews!
