university of wisconsin email today

Same with me - U of Wisc email today

I also got the MCW e-mail. They said they were inviting me based on my 2004 MCAT scores. My 2004 MCAT scores were really nothing to get excited about. Is this a mean joke? Also, why would they send out the recruitment letter now? I've already sent off my AMCAS. Are they going to pay the $160 for me to submit again? Will they take my app without making me go through AMCAS? I don't get it . . .

You don't have to pay another $160 to resubmit AMCAS. You just add additional schools at $30 or $35 a pop. Still probably not worth it.

I got the MCW email, too, which now is in my trash folder.

you would jsut add a school to AMCAS its only 30$

That's good to know, not for MCW, but perhaps another circumstance. I thought every time you hit the submit button you had to pay $160 all over again for the first school.

Did both U. Wisc and Medical College of Wisconsin send out invites today or are you guys confused? If that is right, it sure doesn't make the state of Wisconsin look too good.

The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) recently received, from the AAMC, your results from the April 2004 MCAT. In reviewing your scores the Committee believes that should your other credentials complement these scores you would be a competitive candidate for a space in the class entering in the fall of 2005. Allow me to briefly introduce you to the Medical College of Wisconsin.

* It is the eighth largest medical school in the country. We have space for 204 new students each year. Over one half of each class is from out of state. This gives both residents and non-residents a significant number of spaces for which to compete and creates a diverse student body.
* The College is the fifth fastest growing medical research institution in the nation as measured by research grants received from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) each year.
* It is part of the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center, made up of seven major healthcare providers and research centers. These along with facilities in the greater Milwaukee area provide its students with outstanding comprehensive clinical training within easy access from home or the College.

Applications are reviewed, interviews conducted and offers made on a rolling, first come, first serve basis by the date of completed application until the class is filled. The interviewing process begins in early October. It is in the applicant's best interest to apply early.

You can access our Viewbook by going to our web site at www.mcw.edu/acad/admission and attached for your review is a profile of the most recent entering class. In doing so, I invite you to learn more about one of the premier medical schools in the United States, and invite you to apply to the Medical College of Wisconsin. The Committee welcomes the opportunity to review your application and supporting credentials.

Should you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us at [email protected] or 414-456-8246.

Mike Istwan
Director of Admissions

That's the same letter I got, which says Medical College of Wisconsin. You just said you got a letter from U. Wisconsin

Well, I applied to both, but haven't gotten any emails. Although I haven't been home today to check. I would really like to wind up in Wisconsin, MCW in particular seems like a good match for me. In their Viewbook, 4 out of the 5 opening paragraphs in the "Student" section specifically mention welcoming non-traditional students.

yeah i got that MCW email too. aren't they heavily in-state? A mass e-mail? please, at least send me a viewbook, at least spend $2 on me if you want my application that badly.

got the same one too.

It isn't exactly a letter, but I received a call from the dean of H.U. Medical School inviting me to apply.

Yup, its common to get invites from other schools after you get you're MCAT scores. I know people who took august MCAT and still got invites from several places to apply. Its because some schools really want to diversify their student base through diversification of its applicant pool. And of course, by diversification I don't simply mean URM only but also other factors such as where you live, socio economic background etc. Oh ya, doesn't necassarilly increase your chances though because the invite wasn't really sent to you personally, just means your profile fits a demographic they're trying to fill.

Has anyone received invitations to apply to med schools that he/she did not select on the AMCAS?
We are the cash crop that med schools gleefully harvest.

I know that Ohio State did the same thing last year.

I got one too how many of you are going to persue it?

I got an invitation from WashU and from NY Podiatry school, for sure not going there....

Everybody that got an e-mail from MCW is a minority or disadvantaged in some way?? Please be honest.

No, but it might have something to do with state of residence.

Got these last year also. I wouldn't read into them. If I had applied to every school that sent me something, I would be about $1000 to $1500 in debt, not including interview costs if they had decided to interview me.

Well, MCW Orientation starts in about 9 days, and from what I've seen so far (and at interview day), I'm pretty sure they're telling the truth about the non-trad thing.

I also know that quite a few of the MCW students are engaged, married, or have children. It's a very family-friendly place to live.

Yea I got NY Podiatry, Wash U, and MCOW. Should the fact that I got the letters have any bearing on whether I apply to these schools next year? Because I sure don't have the GPA to be applying to WashU.

I'm sure they send me the letter not because I'm disadvantaged, b/c I'm not: white female, 34/3.94, UCLA, California resident....They just want MONEY :meanie:

Oh yes, The we need more money thing!! Damn them

MCOW and WashingtonU in St. Louis, and some random Podiatry school in NY

LMAO...i actually applied here and was wondering where the hell the secondary is when i was looking through the email and nwo that I look at, I see they just sent out a mass email to I guess people who had acceptable mcat scores.

nope...I'm Asian (Indian) and my parents make decent money and i didnt check URM but if they wanna think that, it's fine with me even though indians are hte largest minority in med school.

disadvanted - no
urm - i look like my avatar

What's up with this podiatry school crap? I mean, really if we wanted to be podiatrists we would probably already be applying there. Why are they sending me junk? 👎

I applied last year. Got mail from Hopkins, Wash U and Pitt. So I decided to go ahead and apply to Hopkins of the 3 and guess what... didn't eevn get an interview. Don't beleive the mailings. I think they're mass mailings to everyone with a certain MCAT score or something. In fact, they all congratulated me on my MCAT score in their 1st paragraph.

I did not apply to Emory but received a letter from them today asking me to apply did anybody else get a letter from Emory?

Anyone receive a letter from Univeristy of Iowa??

Wash U and MCW are known for sending out MASS recuritment letters to students each application year...it's a cycle...

-Harps

Has anyone gotten a mass email from John Hopkins this year??

Yes, but I received mine because I am an URM with a good MCAT score. I got one from Columbia for that same reason as well.

MCOW? I know we're the cheese state, but that's now what we named the med school
