Do any of you know if any programs typically pay for part of travel or hotel cost? The reality is setting in that this is going to be a very expensive process-

I've never heard of any psych residency programs offering to pay for travel or hotel, but that's just based on a small N (=30 or so, between me and my friends).

Anyways, Mercury -- I have not heard from UT San Antonio. I haven't heard yet from Baylor or UT-Houston either...and those are the two schools at the top of my list...have u heard from them?

as to the question of psych programs paying for travel/hotels..i have 2 interviews so far and both programs are paying for my hotel stay..i guess its pretty variable..

To those with UCSF interviews, did you have 4 LoR before getting the invite. They seem like they are pretty hardcore about their "supplemental application," so i am thinking they may actually stick to the 4 letter thing.

Stanford also says they require 4 but, like c_daye, they sent me an invite with only 2/3 letters in.

Just don't want to start hunting for a 4th letter for one school that may very well reject me anyway.

I received an invite from UCSF with only 3/4 letters uploaded, still waiting on the fourth letter writer to finish. So it doesn't look like they wait for all four letters before inviting people. Goodluck🙂

I dont think it matters. Theoretically I think the consensus is that later interviewing is better because your appearance is closer to the match, but with the increasing number of highly/over-qualified applicants, interviewing late may be somewhat of a disadvantage due to the increasing number of applicants being ranked early on. The bottom line is that if they like you, they like you. Whether you interview on November 1st or in the middle of February I sincerely think does not make a difference.

i dont know if this statistic is true, but someone told me if you have at least 6 interviews, you have over a 90% chance of matching. so 4 is pretty good. i only have 5, and one im not planning on ranking, hence im in your boat. just because everyone on sdn is getting like, 10+ interviews, doesn't mean thats the norm. most of the people i know have 3 or 4 and are anxiously waiting for more. i wouldnt worry too much. you'll probably get a few more after Nov 1st anyway 🙂

Stuck in almost the same boat. I only have three interviews at the moment and one of them just doesn't fit with my schedule, but beggars can't be choosers. Unless I get more invites real soon, I'm just going to have to suck it up and make time somehow.

Judging by your interview list you seem to be extremely qualified and would likely match in your top 1 or 2 choices. You seem to have a wide geographic range there. I'd start limiting the interviews in that respect. I've gotten 14 interviews but am only scheduling 6-7 (still waiting on MGH 🙄 ) as I know my personal geographic limitations are the northeast. That being said, if you dont have a geographic limitation, you may want to interview as much as you can and be very picky as to what programs you rank. If you're lucky to have so many interviews and have the free time to use visiting places, why waste them? I know I'm playing devil's avocate, but that's really the two ways of deciding in your situation as I see it. Regardless, congratulations on the invites and best of luck!!

I applied there only because my girlfriend applied to their medical school but since she's decided against it I'm withdrawing my app. It's way out on Long Island and unfortunately I dont know anthing about the program. And I hadn't heard from them yet anyway.

Mayo covers 2 nights of hotel, 1 more night if you do a tour.
WashU covers 1 night of hotel.
Cleveland Clinic covers 1 night of hotel.

That is great that you applied yesterday and already have two interviews! When i first put in my app, i had one LoR from Medicine and recieved 5 interviews from what i consider solid programs. When I added a second LoR from Psych, literally within a few days I got interviews and some at supposively 'big name' places. I'm sure the 2nd LoR helped...I'm still waiting for two more LoR from professors.

I got an invite from LIJ in the first week of october and put in for a January interview date and still havent heard back. I called and they said they're scheduling interviews on a monthly basis and I think what might be holding things up is that they really try to get specialists in the area of interest of the applicant to interview them, and I'm sure their schedules are very busy.

Interesting you heard from MGH as this is taken from the email that I, and many others, received from MGH/McLean upon receipt of our applications: "As you know, our deadline for receiving all materials is November 1st. We will review applications in November, and we will send invitations via email in rounds for several weeks."
