I talked to Brenda about 5 minutes ago, and she said after the e-mail was sent out your status should of changed on your page.

And for all the people including me who didn't get an interview invite, they sent out all their interview invites. 🙁

I guess I didn't get one either, but my status page hasn't changed. Did anyone else's change?

I received an interview invitation email but my status page did not change. It still even says that there is a problem with my prerequisite courses (I had an issue that has since been resolved). So I guess that haven't updated anyone's status pages quite yet!

Maybe someone should call who did get one? Their might be a problem...

mine still says academic review and i got an interview invite

I just called the school about the interview dates/times.

They told me, for all of those that rsvp'd, that they are sending the interview time assignment tomorrow.

So if you don't hear anything tomorrow and you DID rsvp, you should call them.

Also, I am probably not renting a car, because I have almost no experience driving in snow (from miami). . .
but once we get the tickets there, anyone interested in splitting a cab from airport to campus?

Hm...Raimes, I am confused since I just got off the phone w/Iowa and was told something different.

I told the woman on the phone I was OOS and that I hadn't heard anything or recieved an e-mail yet. I was told that tomorrow will be the last day that they will be sending out invitation e-mails. If you don't hear anything at that time, then later they will be notifying you at a later date
(rejection...I assume...either by e-mail or snail mail?).

Has anyone else heard anything that would either support or deny this as well? I am confused how we could get 2 different answers! I am hoping what I was told is true since that gives hope for those of us who haven't heard anything yet!!

I hope so too... I have to call AGAIN.. haha.. because I need to see about this whole contract/if I checked it or didn't check it thing. She told me they might send out e-mails for interviews for the 24th.

Hey all,

I just called in and was told that they are unsure if there will be additional interview invites sent out, that they will be determining that after they have conducted the interviews they have already set up.

I find it odd that the three of us who called all got different answers…

So they told you that basically, if we haven’t heard anything from Iowa by now, we should just plan on it being a rejection? The only way we can get an interview is if they don’t like enough of the people they will be interviewing from their pool of applicants.

I just got off the phone with Brenda and she said that if they are going to offer more interviews you'll receive the invite by the end of this week. If they're caught up they will try to get the rejections out by the end of the week as well.

I got an email itinerary for the interview Jan 17 today!

I have a question for those of you who have interviewed at ISU already. I have an afternoon session with a check-in/arrival time of 12:15. Do you think it would be feasible to fly into Des Moines around 10am and make it (unstressed) to campus in time? Would it be a safer option to fly in Friday night and out Sunday morning?

I'm totally new to this whole process and don't want to make an avoidable mistake by botching the travel arrangements. Any feedback would be appreciated!

I'd fly in the night before. It's winter and it's Iowa. Weather may be unpredictable. Your flight might be delayed for some reason. I'd give yourself more buffer time.

I second that. There is no way to ensure that your flight will arrive on time, or that you can get your rental car sorted out with zero time to spare, or that there wont be a bad snowstorm. I would definitely fly in the night before and spend that time relaxing/preparing. If there is anything I wish I could have done differently, I would have spent more time exploring Ames in the daytime to get a better feel of the town and university.

Sunday the 18th Interview Rollcall!

Anyone else going to be there? I have a morning session interview and a pre-vet friend of mine will be coming with me for fun and support 😎 (she's applying next yr I think).

Gonna arrange planes/cars/hotels right now. I'm excited!

I'll be there the 18th! my interview is at 1pm though.

The interviewers are SUPER nice and will introduce themselves and then ask you for a short introduction, so be ready for that.

For those of you who have already interviewed... how did you go about introducing yourself? Did you stick to the basics (name, where you're from, etc) or did you include things like your main area of interest in veterinary medicine? I'm prepping for my interview on Friday, but I can't seem to think of the best way to introduce myself.

I was wondering about this, too. My dad suggested I type up a copy of a portfolio for each of the interviewers... but I thought that was sort of excessive.

Thanks for the advice, everyone! Unfortunately I sorta panicked this weekend when airline tickets went up like $100 and I went ahead and bought one... I'm supposed to arrive at 10:30 AM in Des Moines on Saturday morning and my interview will be at 3:00 PM. Hopefully everything will go well and I won't miss the tour or any of the extra stuff, but you guys are making me nervous with all this talk about snow! The last time I had plane trouble, it was because the tiny airport in Peru didn't have radar so the planes couldn't takeoff/land in the fog. Dios mio. Crossing my fingers for rain. 🙄

Anyone else interviewing on the afternoon of the 17th?

At first I stuck to the basics, but then the interviewers wanted to know about my parents (profession, ect), if I had siblings, what part of vet med I was interested in, why I wanted to be a vet....

Once this introduction was done then we went into the interview questions.

I hope this helps!

Just to let everyone know .... I e-mailed Brenda Cousins yesterday and she got back to me this morning saying that they are still sending out interview invites and that we should be hearing back one way or another soon. Hope this info helps!!

Thanks meadow36!

Hey all,

A few months ago I found Iowa's vet med brochure PDF on their website-- I thought it was a great resource and told me a lot more about the school than just their website. I wanted to find it again and review it in order to have some more questions planned to ask the interview committee . . . but I can't find it!!

If anyone has a copy of it or can find the link to it on the new-and-improved ISU website I would be so thankful!

Cheers!

I agree that it was a great resource... but I can't seem to find it, either. Maybe it hasn't been put back up yet?

Good luck to everyone who's interviewing this weekend... let us know how it goes!

Agreed! The only one we know of so far is cuitlamiztli....Hey, you'll do great!

turkeytalk, don't get too nervous in this upcoming week. I know that I was more nervous than I should have been for my interview. I REALLY relaxed once I got there and started talking to students, the Dean, and other interviewers. You will see when you get there!

anyone know the number of OOS interviewed versus number OOS admitted?

To everyone interviewing next week... I was a little nervous about the whole thing, but there was no reason to be. So don't drive yourself crazy worrying about it because you'll do just fine 🙂

... let us know how it goes!

Definitely! It's all in the Iowa Interview Updates thread.

anyone know the number of OOS interviewed versus number OOS admitted?

I believe ~60 OOS/contract students are admitted, but I'm not sure how many are interviewed. I did notice a bulletin board with a breakdown of this year's applicants by state of residency and primary area of interest during the SA part of the tour, though, so you could always look for that to find out.

ATTENTION ANYONE INTERVIEWING THE MORNING OF SATURDAY THE 17TH:

I will be interviewing during the morning of the 17th and have the check in time of 7:15AM. I am not able to rent a car due to my age and I would need transportation from the AmericInn to the campus. If anyone else happens to be staying at the same hotel and will be going to campus at the same time please PM me if you could give me a ride! I am not sure how reliable a taxi service would be and I would hate to be late because of something like that. Thanks!!!

WOOT!!! Just got the card in the mail today! . . I wasn't sure what it was since it was the size of a Christmas Card and had my address hand written on the front!!

CONGRATS. Hopefully, I will join you in the celebrations soon.:luck:

Congratulations, athane! That's awesome news!

Thanks for all of the grats!! I am from Texas. . . Northern Texas. The card was postmarked on the 9th . . if that helps!!

Good luck to you Lady and LVT and Dreamvet!!

Well . . it doesn't say much . . just a card with a picture of the school that says congratulations and inside basically states that I have been invited to join the class of 2013 and that I will receive an information packet in a week for completion for admission. . . sorry nothing too exciting 🙄

It is actually kinda neat because the dean ( I assume) singed the card in ink and put my name on the top but everything else is typed.

I had planned to take a graduate biochemistry course as part of my MS BIO program. Since my first biochem course is old and I figured it couldnt be that bad since Ive taken biochem before and just recently took Gen chem and Org chem and got A's. But for some reason Ive had this sinking feeling since I registered for the couse, that I may have bitten off more than I could chew with taking this courses and my new work schedule. Im used to working 40hrs a week, but my new job has me working until 7pm everynight. Ugh! Anywho, Im basically doing the biochem class for my application to OKSU. So I made a comment to my hubbie that I was worried the course might jeopardize my:xf:acceptance to ISU (if I didnt do well) and I pondered if I get accepted to ISU, if I should just drop the course and bag my application to OKSU, in an effort to make sure ISU acceptance remains viable. (I dont need this for a pre-req so doesnt matter there)
Okay so heres the WEIRD part, about 10 minutes after this discussion between my hubbie and myself. I get an email from my Grad school, saying they've dropped my Spring registration because they dont have me down as taking the biochem course's chem or ochem pre-reqs..😕 So, okay this is obviously a records issue, since Ive taken the classes and I could probably rectify this with a phone call, but should I just take this as a sign and just let sleeping dogs lie????????

Personally, I'm a "worst case scenario" kinda girl. Worst case scenario, what if you don't get into Iowa State. Would you still want OK State to be a viable option? If so, then I think you have to work on getting back into that class. But that's just how I operate... hope for the best, plan for the worst.

I agree with VA girl and go with the worst possible case scenario. And even if you don't do stellar on the course and still get accepted into ISU, I do not think that will affect your chances this late in the game unless this is a prereq for ISU (which I am assuming it isn't from your post)!IF the course is not going to be completed until May and deposits are due by April, I don't think the grades matter (unless you fail) as much at that point. THis is not to say slack off on any courses . . obviously . . I just wouldn't let it be a deciding factor whether or not you continue with an application !

athane, congrats on your acceptance! that's so exhilarating!

LVT, I personally would take it as a sign, BUT at the same time, it can't hurt to try to make it work. I recommend that you follow athane's and VAgirl's advice. And maybe talk to your boss to see if there's any way you could go home early once or twice a week.

Taylor, I'd love to help, but I won't even be in Iowa until 10:30 that morning. I'm sorry, and I hope you find someone who can help!

Thanks! ^__^

So, you've got some decisions ahead of you now that you just got more interview invites! Wow!

Thanks Lady! I actually think I might decline the interviews to Purdue and MN since I would choose Iowa over them anyway because of their incredible public health opportunities there, so hopefully they might let another person take my place.

Still haven't decided yet.

And LVT: I think good news is coming your way! Please don't give up hope, only a couple of us have heard back at this point. We might be classmates!!!!

LVT2DVM - I am seriously rooting for you, girl! As is everyone on this board. I can honestly say that I want Iowa more for you than I want it for myself (and I would really want to go there!). If I got in and you didn't, I would call Iowa personally and give my spot to you (if admissions actually worked that way). Moral of the story: my fingers are crossed for you! 😉

HEY LVT!!

My status (just checked it right now) still says INTERVIEW.. . .

I am pretty set on ISU . . even over my state school at this point, just because their public health affliation (being across the street from the national animal disease center and all). The only other school I would consider would be CSU . . but this is more of a dream since I am oos for that also.

It is kind of weird that only a couple of us got notified early . . but I am sure there are more to come, seeing so many of us interviewed like you said on the same weekend.
