I am deciding what ipad to buy. I plan on using it for downloading ppts, pdfs, taking notes and reviewing flashcards. Is a 16GB iPad large enough or should I buy 32GB? I am thinking of getting larger iPad, the mini is a bit tooo small for me. If I go with 16GB version should I do iPad Air or regular iPad (at a $100 discount)?

Thanks for your input.

If you want to download movies and/or games, the 32GB is going to be really handy. If you are just going to keep school-related material on your iPad, then the 16GB should suffice.
I really do like my mini I can fit it easily in my white coat pocket or hold it in one hand and have no problems with the screen size.
In my opinion the regular iPad is not very thick to begin with, so I would go for that one unless there is only a very small difference in price to upgrade to the Air.

I got the 32 gig. Holds most of my notes (I transfer them to dropbox if I need more space on my ipad), music, medical related apps, other apps, and games

I'm working from an ipad2 16 gig. I have had this ipad since my 2 year in undergrad Micro. It took me a while to find a good document program for handling lecture slides. I finally settled for Kdans PDF handler since it lets me organize files in files in files. My entire college career is in this ipad, lecture slides, and several textbooks. I have never deleted any lecture slides or papers. I have had to convert Ppt file to PDF on a standard laptop and then mail them to myself since my doc manager only allows notes markups on PDF. I have yet to try the Word package for ipad.

Get the regular size ipad, and try a keyboard. I wish mine were a litter larger and I will buy the ipad mega when apple realizes whata flicking genius idea I just had there. In retrospect I would get a 32 or even 64. Not for games, just because of the amount of data I have ended up slinging around - med school bodes the possibility of even more data - and because doc handling apps flow a little cleaner on a 32.

Most doc programs I'm familiar with handle differently on a 32. I may upgrade when the loan refund comes in.

If you plan on hand writing your notes, I recommend you take a look at the new surface pro 3. Having palm detection will save you a lot of head aches when free writing.

I have an iPad mini 32 gb and it is awesome. I think 16 gb is too small and you will regret it once you start downloading apps and putting PDFs on it. I had an iPad 2 for a while but decided on the mini because the size is more convenient. I would recommend the app Notability for everything note/PDF related. I have the mini for 3 semesters in undergrad and it is all I use.

^^^ agree with notability. I also use a stylus called the HandStylus. They have a website as well. Thinking about getting the jot script pro since it's an active stylus (battery powered) but reviews currently are average.

Thanks all for input.. will be picking up 32 gig tomorrow.
I have had a 16 gb ipad 2 for almost 3 years now and I have never come close to running out of space, nor I have ever had a problem with its size/weight. Unless you are loading it up with tons of games (that inevitably just sit there and do nothing) 32 isn't completely necessary, and I would recommend doing everything you can to minimize your costs. $100 here and $50 there, adds up to a large chunk of change and can mean the difference between taking out private loans.

Hook up to pandora or jango for free music, use 5gb dropbox or google drive for file transfer and you are set. At most I need 10-20 pdfs/ppts at once, and that takes up no room at all. No reason to keep storing old ppts/pdfs on the ipad when you can just put them on your computer or external HD. Use quizlet for notecards and all that is stored online.

Does the HandStylus have a rubber tip? I have used a couple of the rubber tip kind and they always feel like they are catching on the iPad screen. I have one of those microfiber ones and it seems to do the trick but I am always looking for new options.

Yes its a rubber tip lol. And I know what you mean. I end up switching my tip every week or so and buying more tips is costly. I'm contemplating getting the jot script and worst case I will just have to return it if its not promising.

Which stylus do you use?

I use a stylus with a mesh tip, works great and glides perfectly.

Does handwriting come out ok?

The handstylus has a really thin tip so taking down notes is a breeze, only downside of course is the wearing of the tip lol.

Yupp! I annotate files with notability and it auto syncs with my Dropbox account (they have other cloud services to sync with as well). It does take up a lot of space depending how much you annotate so I recommend get a pro version of Dropbox or whatever cloud service you choose to use. You can also include text boxes as well.

Thanks! For both replies. I've downloaded that App, now to find a mesh tip stylus. I've got rubber tip issues too.
