Kind of freaking out reading this board and seeing that people applying now are being called out for being late. For what it is worth, I could have the entire application ready the day I take the test.

I was planning on taking the DAT next week, but I unfortunately just learned it's impossible to get the date you want unless you register well in advance(my complete mistake). Earliest I could get was the 21st. :scared:

Thanks for the help. My dentist was telling me how Labor Day was the unwritten deadline for getting it in, but I'm sure times have changed since he was applying.

you better knock the exam out of the park and have a competitive gpa. i know 3 people that took the exam in early august last year. only 1 got in off of a waitlist (he had a 23 and a 3.6). so if you apply broadly, maybe you'll get positive responses? pick your schools wisely.

i think taking your dat in august is fine. i have plenty of friends who took their dat's in august, and one even in sept and ended up with acceptances, to some of the ivy dental schools. altho they submitted their apps earlier in the summer, before their DATs. im assuming they were on hold until their new dat scores though......so tehcnically whats the diff bt applying in august and being on hold till august? get wat im sayinnnnn
i think u beeee aiteeeee 👍👍

also theres no point in taking the DAT earlier if you arent going to do well. take it when youre ready and u know ull get a good score. anything past august i think would be pushing it though.

No it's not.

Other note:
I have found looking at specific examples is pointless...The "I have a friend who basically cured cancer and didn't get in" type thing. Each case is very different, a lot of the times having very little to do with GPA/DAT scores.

Ok, I understand what the common saying 'to get your application in early'. I sent in my application sep 27 and took dat 11oct2011 and still got called 3weeks after I took my DAT. Once you do good in the exam, you still have a shot. Aug is still very early. Good luck

Thanks for the answers everyone!

If things don't work out for me this cycle, I'll certainly improve what I can and have my application sent out the first day of next years cycle.

I was just a little freaked out because I haven't lurked here in a while, and seeing the thread on the front page about the seventh batch already turned in was a little intimidating. :scared:

I better get back to ochem or something haha. 16 days. 😱

August 21st Isn't to late...wouldnt be a bad idea to fill out some secondaries during your breaks! GL

Whether it's too late or not would greatly depend on your academic stats. But generally speaking, it is very late.

I say go got it! You can do it! It might be on the mid-side of being late, but if you have solid DAT scores, excellent LORs, and a good GPA, I'm sure you can get a few interviews! It might be after December 1st, but if you think you are ready to apply this year, definitely try!
