I'm interested in becoming a kgb (Knowledge Generation Bureau) "Special Agent." I'm sure you've all seen the commercials where you text in any question and get an answer from a real person.

Apparently, the work schedule is really flexible and the quiz they give you to see if you're eligible is really easy: http://beginkgb.com/challenge/

(And you get 10 cents per answer ;)) [Oh yea, I'm obviously not doing it for the money, it just seems like fun... I like helping people through the internet hehe]

Anyways... I'm just curious what people would think about putting this on a med school app. I'm sure if I did this for 3 years it might be worth adding? (I'm a freshie.)

But is adding such a questionable EC worth the risk?
Adcoms might look at it and say:

"How interesting! Let's invite him."

or...

"What a pathetic attempt at filler..."

Any opinions?

Well, it's got to be more eye-catching than working for Burger King, right?
Why do you view it as that? Is there chance for advancement or leadership? No.

Also, I doubt most adcom members are savvy to texting, much less a question answering service. Most people I interviewed with were retired and 60+.

Again, its a neutral, neither a positive or negative.

My brother had an online math quiz last week for a course he's taking through a CC. He told me he was going to try and KGB every question ... I laughed, quite hard.

Why is a mobile question answering company named after the Soviet secret service? If that isn't copyright infringement, then I don't know what is...

What a bummer, I was expecting some juicy story about an ex russian|soviet intelligence agent now turned premed... I guess I can go to bed now.

Did the USSR get "KGB" copyrighted in the US before or during the cold war?

I agree... apparently no one else shares my enthusiasm. :(

I'll go to bed now also.

because the ex-KGB agents are the ones that answer the questions. They finally decided to data dump all their useless spy intel in the form of a question/answer service.

100% on everything except failing (-10!) sports
Future doctor, not sportscaster.

Anyway, 10 cents per answer doesn't seem like much?
if you can answer 1 question per minute that equates to $6 per hour:rolleyes: I think you would be better served at Burger King.

EC: "KGB Agent"

The people reviewing your app (e.g. baby boomers) will get a good kick out of it!

In thick, comical Russian accent: "In Soviet Russia, KGB ask you questions!"

I'd do it to have KGB Agent on my CV.

10 cents per answer and 5 cents if its in the database. if you're lucky, you can make minimum wage.

Did KGB myself. Terrible pay, kind of stupid once you get into it. Do it if it's something you REALLY enjoy, because I didn't find much else in it.

Does anyone have any experience with 'ChaCha'? They're similar to KGB, and I was wondering if they pay any better.

KGB pays better I believe.
You start as specialist on KGB whereas you start as generalist in Chacha.
Funny isnt it?

Specialists make more than generalists...where have we seen that before?

who's brilliant idea was it to name a student help service after ussr's secret police??? i don't think it's witty; it's just confusing in a kind of awkward way.

i would def put it down, but maybe don't use the acronym in the title, but spell it out.

Since I got one question wrong on the Geography specialty quiz, it said I wouldn't be naming all the countries in Africa any time soon. :lame:

I can name all 53 countries of Africa and 195 of the world - bs.

They charge $1.00 per answer and only give 1/10 of that to the answerer? What a rip.

Somehow I took a 5 question quiz and got a 75%. I think they may need to hire a few math people to straighten things out.

someone doesnt deserve to get into med school :s
