I'm debating whether or not I should sign up for calc. 2 this spring and whether or not its necessary to take before taking the PCAT.

Edit: I'm not applying to any schools that require calculus 2.

You only really need calc I...but there might be some Calc II on there. Calc II will actually reinforce some of calc 1.

If you think it will help you, then I'd say consider taking it. It can't hurt to have some extra practice with calculus problems.

Personally, I would not take Calculus II based on the feedback on the forum and friends. Seems like the PCAT Quantitative section for Calculus is basic calculations like limits, L'hopital's rule, derivatives, and integrals. Take Statistics if you have already....good luck.

I have never taken calc 2 and definitely did not see any on the PCAT. All my test prep material did not cover calc 2 either.
I distinctly remember one calc 2 question on the october PCAT, using a simple integral to solve for the area under a parabolic curve. Definitely not worth taking the class for though, unless you need it. I guessed on like 10 quant questions and still pulled out an 85 quant, so missing one question is not a huge deal.

Waste a whole semester to learn Calculus II which on the PCAT could possible have 1-2 questions vs. Reviewing "MANY" other subjects for the PCAT to possibly increase your score exponentially. Either one is a plus though so go for it if you want. 🙂

Area under curve is usually Calc I
