as CCOM is my number 1..i'm just wondering, how many of you feel the same..? if not, what's your top choice? I'm just trying to see where everyone wants to go 😎

I am going to CCOM in August! So it was/is my top choice.

Marcia

I don't know anything about CCOM, but I will be going to my first choice DCOM.😀 :luck:

I am matriculating to CCOM---getting ready to send the second(matriculation) deposit of $750 on Monday. Definetly my top choice. Its been around since the 1890's and the curriculum and reputation are great. Esp being in the Chicagoland area for rotations will be a plus.

so MRa2z--if you are goin to CCOM definetly will see ya there. Good Luck.

CCOM was my first choice at the beginning of my application process...but they ended up taking forever looking at it. I ended up going to a couple other interviews and decided that DMU is my first choice.

Just the other day I declined an interview from CCOM...decided that the OOS tuition would be too much for me to handle!..How things have changed ...

the tuition is the issue for me too

haven't heard back from CCOM yet...i'm getting rather impatient, i must admit..and the out of state tuition ( roughly 45k a year i think ) is ridiculous......but i'm still in love with the school.

I am going to release my spot at CCOM on Tuesday...so I hope one of you guys will get it! It is an awesome school as you will get a solid education and outstanding clinical training.

Best of Luck to you all:luck: :luck:

For me it is KCUMB with DMU at a close second. Right now it is all about KCUMB for me. Maybe my interview at DMU will change things a little?

OOS Tuition: $40,492

Not quite 45k. 4,500/yr less might not seem like a lot but that is 18k of principle debt over four years... ~23k with interest.

As of now, I am going to CCOM, but an acceptance after my interview to PCOM would definitely result in my withdrawal from CCOM. I really loved CCOM and Chicago in general, but I'd have to move 650 miles away from my S/O and family. Either way, I am thrilled to have this opportunity 🙂

what is the average cost of living there?

If you have an interview scheduled, just GO. It is silly to not go just b/c of tuition. You have no idea yet how much financial aid you could get going there. It could land up costing you LESS if they have a good scholarship offer to you while another school doesn't!
I don't think closing the door on your options based on what it MIGHT be like there is a great idea - so much can change. Plus you could find out that you just love the school... you just can't know sitting at home on your computer speculating. Good luck, guys! :luck:

DMU, like, uh, duh. CCOM was my 2nd though, close 2nd

I am going to CCOM as it was my first choice. However, the only factor I consiered while deciding my first choice was the proximity to my family. I am 7 miles from CCOM campus.

dr.max - youre right, it is 40,500, my bad.

I live about 12 miles away from CCOM, i go to school pretty close by. However, my family lives in a different state completely, hence my out of state status. I don't want to go to CCOM just because it's close to me, but their campus, residency matches, and staff have always impressed me.

The cost of living really depends..I pay around 1050 a month for a one bedroom with underground parking , all utilities included..but i think i'm overpaying, as a lot of students have found similar places locally for closer to 850 a month.

anyways, hopefully i'll hear something from them soon...and btw, i'm seeing a LOT of people that want to go to DMU ~ i've always been interested, but they haven't given me an interview yet, so i'll keep my fingers crossed for there as well.

NYCOM 🙂 or UMDNJ 🙂 if both will take me than NYCOM.

As stated previously, my DO choices are as follows:

1. PCOM
2a. CCOM
2b. UMDNJ-SOM
3. NYCOM

best of luck getting into your first choices, unless that choice may happen to be PCOM  Kidding!

hey buddy
i know you from BU
Top choice? probably CCOM for me
only downside i've heard about is the dorms suck (notice they have dorms, not apts)

i interviewed at DMU and i wasnt really thrilled with the school or anything they had nice facilities or whatnot good technology
residency match list are better at KCUMB/ CCOM tho.

bigdogg, CCOM does have student apartments. They are all the way in the back of the campus.

I don't know anything about CCOM, but I will be going to my first choice DCOM.😀 :luck:

doctormom you crack me up so much sometimes:laugh: that was great...

to the op...yES YES YESY ESYYYYYSYYEEEEEESSSSSS
CCOM😀
i just hope it will happen for me next cycle:scared:

Why do the dorms suck? They're private, new, and you can get a meal plan... sounds fine to me.

On my tour last year, they didn't have keys to the new dorms, so we only saw the old ones. Those looked pretty bleh -- I think they even had cinderblock walls. Maybe the person who posted above saw the same dorms I did.

the old dorms are kind of ehh but manageable..i have a friend who lives there , and she's fine with them. the new dorms are really really nice - great facilities, lounge, and bathrooms. but the new dorms are a hundred bucks more per month, i think - but the old dorms are a lot bigger - you can have a double as a single, i believe...however, for even more money, you can get a larger single in the new dorms. the apartments are more eh than the old dorms..i wouldn't recommend them.

CCOM is a well est. school with a nice campus, but its extremely
over priced and the class is huge. I was acccepted here in Nov.
but after touring the facilities and realizing ill be close to 250K in debt afetr,
i decided to pass. If youre die hard about being in Chicago though, this is the
school for you. Rotations feed Chicago land hospitals, but at a steep price. Someone is making big bucks off this school....

Extremely overpriced??? There are many schools that cost around the same to attend. Even UIC, is 22,000 per year for instate.
CCOM is a great school, but everyone has there own reasons for picking a school. In the end, it is all the same...We are gonna be docs, it is just our paths getting there may be different.

Gotta show some love for Nova!! Definitely my top choice 🙂

CCOM should be everyone's top choice. It is by far the best school.

Started out :
DMU
CCOM
KCUMB
NSU
UNECOM

But now due to interview situations :
NSU
DMU
CCOM
KCUMB
UNECOM

CCOM is not that expensive. the tuition runs 36K i believe for out of state. i'm in state so 32 for me 🙂
DMU KCUMB were all in the same vicinity, maybe a grand less.
I don't think $4K over 4 yrs should sway your decision on which med school to go to.
***Keep in mind that the figures they give are projected budjets. No one says that you have to spend that much money in a year. If you get health insurance from your parents, thats $3,000/ year right there shaved off. Take a closer look at it. Realize your means and that you should NOT have to borrow what they estimate.

People, it's not THAT expensive! You can't compare private schools to public schools, so stop doing it! The only cheap private school is LECOM...

A few examples of allo schools that are ust as expensive:

drexel, gwu, penn, jeff, etc... so get over it. It's medical school and CCOM is hands-down better in terms of residency option snad matchlist than many other DO schools.

Oh and bigdog, it's 37 in-state and 41 or so out-of-state.. but that's really par for the course if you ask me.

CCOM is expensive and overpriced

CCOM tuition out of state ie PRIVATE = 41,000

HARVARD out of stae ie PRIVATE = 34,000

Its overpriced as are quite few private DO programs

CCOM projected student budget for next year is $62,000
Take that into prospective over 4 years plus intrest (over 290,000)
It may apppear only a bit more upfront but after intrest
this is A LOT of money. CCOM is the only med school Ive
been to that they use physician salaries to convince students the
loans are worth it, CCOM is an expensive school PERIOD.

i agree.

bigdog-you might want to add about 7 thousand dollars per year to your numbers...you're a bit off.

as far as expenses go - if you're a local to the area and can live at home, and eat at home, then great. if not, the DORMS arent cheap, and apartments arent either. Food is not that cheap, and neither is gas, entertainment, or anything else. I'd say CCOM's estimate of 62k per year in expenses is very accurate for any non local student. As many of CCOM's students are older, many can't claim parents for health insurance. also, 3 k per year isn't anything to be jumping about when it's shaving you down to probably around 275 in debt (* after interest) from a whopping 290.

but hey..it's still my top choice =)

CCOM was my first choice until the adcom highly disappointed me...

how did the adcom dissapoint you

If you let +/- 5k/ year decide what school you go to you will be very dissapointed. ALL the docs I have talked to say that it will not matter once you get out. Go to the school you like the best or your life will be even worse than it is already going to be. You want to make it the best fit you can.

Based on the schools i have visited/ interviewed at/ who have accepted me, CCOM is my #2 choice as of now. my #1 choice is MSUCOM. However i am currently waitlisted at MSU and if they don't accept me i would most likely be attending CCOM.
