My plan was to graduate after 3 and a half years of undergrad in Dec '09. So, I left ceramics as a relaxing class for my last semester...it turned out that the ceramics professor went on sabbatical. The other local university just lost their ceramics professor a few weeks ago. I can choose to spend another semester in college for that class, but is it necessary?! Can I just take drawing (sculpture is taught by the same professors)? I know it's not a requirement, but it's highly recommended, right? I have some dexterity from my research and I can knit very well 🙂. However, I could finish my second major in business if I just stick to my initial graduation plan for May '10 (I only have a minor now). But isn't a 7-8 month break useful before dental school, though? can anyone help me?

dental school does not require a course in ceramics or sculpting. however those courses are good resume builders for the hand dexterity part.

maybe you could take it over the summer instead? if that's not possible i wouldn't worry about it 🙂

Do not bust a bone over ceramics.

In fact, I thought ceramics was going to be relaxing.... And, boy was I wrong. There are many projects with deadlines, critiques, along with waiting for projects to dry in order to fire and sprinkle in a few interviews makes ceramics a time management disaster. 😀 I'd take physical chemistry any day if I didn't have to present on influential ceramicists.

What is everyone talking about?
It is required by every dental school. 🙄

Agreed. Ceramics takes a lot more time than you think it would and it usually gets boring well before class is over. I took it and it was a Monday, Wednesday class from 1-4 and all you do is sit and work on projects until critique/deadline day comes up and then you'd start a new project and work on that until critique/deadline day, etc. I think one of the worst parts about that class was the fact that we had to make our own clay because it's a lot harder than you'd think.

thank you for your suggestions....I guess I'll just drop the idea then

I'm disappointed by the distinct lack of sarcastic answers in this thread. 1/5 will simply not do, so...

"Ceramics? What idiot told you that? Probably a gunner who wants to screw you up. Forget ceramics and sign up for basket weaving, pretty much every school has it on their list of secret requirements. If you can do it underwater, it's even better, because it shows that you can work around a wet area such as the mouth."
