Is Direct Hernia Surgery the same as Indirect surgery?

I had a patient who read a bunch online, who had a direct hernia surgery ask: I had a direct hernia surgery. Can I still get an indirect hernia? I had no idea how to answer the question and could not find an answer. I can't ask a surgeon either...
