I interviewed at my first choice school and that day they let us know they would get back to us with a decision within 30 business days. It’s been 30 business days since my interview and I haven’t heard anything. I’m wondering if it would be okay to call the admissions office in this case; someone connected to the school told me I should, but online forums seem to say otherwise and I don’t want to hurt myself.

Yeah, if they gave you a timeline and they haven't reached out yet, it's totally fine.

Although if today is the 30th day exactly, I'd wait until end of business and call tomorrow haha.

I recommend not calling because schools can be a day late or over a week late. Something I've learned is that whenever a school gives you a date, it is ironically the date when something is least likely to happen lol

There are appropriate reasons to call, this is not one of them. However, if you know many others who have received their decisions, I would give them a call tomorrow or something (31st day)

have you checked the school thread to see if they notified ppl already?
i would wait at least a few more days. Schools Onlycan approximate how long it would take to notify ppl. Calling wont really achieve anything

yeah there’s been a few people posting about hearing back last week EDIT: they interviewed the same day as me

ok then. Clearly the school has started reaching out to ppl-as they had suggested. If you call, what do you hope to achieve? They will likely say, we dont know. In review. If anything, your not hearing back is NOT bc they somehow forgot to tell you.

AAMC national meeting ends at 1:30 mountain time today (11/12). Many admissions people are at the meeting and then might be traveling tonight & tomorrow. Give it time.

No one will ever give this information over the phone to a caller. They'll only tell you when you can expect to hear. Basically, you'll get an excuse. I'd lean toward not calling but that's me.

lol yeah you’re right. impatience getting the best of me. the person I know who’s got connections to the school said it would show interest so that’s why I’m even considering this, but I haven’t really bought it. I feel like it’s better to just wait.

yup! We are all in this same boat. Just go do something fun in the meantime to distract yourself

They know you are interested. You applied and went to an interview. Im pretty sure that’s considered showing interest!

If you have a question regarding admissions give them a call. If you think a call is rushed send them an email. They have an entire admissions staff dedicated to this process and to answer your questions, and you shouldn't be afraid to use them as a resource.

I'm in a similar predicament. I have a hefty acceptance deposit due at school X a week after I was told by school Y (my top choice) I would receive a decision. If this time comes and there is still radio silence, would calling and inquiring about my status hurt my chances? Obviously I wouldn't demand a decision on the spot, but I could really use that money elsewhere if I were accepted by school Y.

MSUCOM? I'm in the same boat. Gonna wait to contact if I don't hear back from the 45th day.

Just relax. They didn't forget about you. People use computers now. It's not like your application got caught in a gust of wind and is lost to the world.

Glitches happen. Last year one of my schools told everyone that interviewed before October that we’d hear back on October 15th one way or the other and then didn’t contact most of the people they told that to. They had some weird glitch where they accidentally sent out acceptances to people who hadn’t even interviewed yet and in the process just forgot to call. I called them like 2 weeks after they told me they’d let me know and they gave me some info on my status.

If they don’t get back to you in the next few weeks, I personally would just shoot a friendly call or email letting them know just in case. This stuff isn’t done by perfect robots, it’s done by people. If you are respectful, they aren’t going to throw your app in the reject pile just because you called to ask for info.

Happened to me this cycle already.

...so I called them and they told me then and there.

They gave information on whether an applicant had been admitted or not over the phone?? How did they confirm that you were the applicant? That does not seem appropriate in terms of protecting applicant privacy.
