Right now I just got accepted to UTA, and I am going to a local community college. The two work really well together and ensure that almost all classes taken will transfer. So here is my dilemma and maybe this is where you can help me out.

1. I am very close to having AS degree, I know its more for looks than anything, but I almost have it.
2. The CC offers the same exact bio, chem, physics, and math courses that UTA offers, with the exception of junior and senior level, and the CC offers these classes at hours at which I can work full time and go to class after in the evenings. UTA does not.
3. The financial aspect is taken care of by loans, but it should keep my loans cheaper by taking the lower end courses at the CC instead of UTA.

So with all that being said, I have about 2 of each classes to take from what I listed up above, so totaling close to 8-10 classes.

Do you think it would be a smart idea to just take them at the CC and wait on going to UTA until I get most of them under my belt and then transfer everything over? Basically the AS degree is the lower end division courses for the BA-Bio degree. with the exception of geology. Any ideas, please. Thanks

BTW I did a major switch from pre-nursing ( so to spreak ) to pre-med. So I have about 45 credit hours right now, but the ones that apply to the BS drops it down close to about 21-25 credit hours. Thanks

The problem is when people attend a four-yr institution and then take their prereqs at a CC during the summer.

If you start at a CC, taking your prereqs at a CC is not a huge problem. In that case, the MCAT is very important.

Taking classes at a CC (including prereqs) then transferring to a 4 yr and taking some upper-division science classes is fine. Just do well on the MCAT and don't let your grades slip.

Thanks, I was running a scenario in my head, that I dont see how medschools could looks down on those who go to cc and then get their AS and then go to 4year, to me, unless your rich, that would be the logical way to go. but who knows. I was reading it can hurt you bad if you make less than A's on your sciences at a cc.

The following courses are required for admission into ************* Medical School. It is suggested, but not required, that all premedical course requirements be completed prior to application. All requirements must be fulfilled before enrollment into the medical curriculum. The required courses must be completed at a regionally accredited U.S. college or university. Advanced placement credit is acceptable if the school granting the credit lists the specific course(s) and number of units granted per course on the official transcript.

that is what it says on the website of one medical school in the local area, so does this basically put me in the clear? As long as I make A's on the lower division courses?

It doesn't matter where you take them as long as you do well when
You transfer to a university. The only schools that might not like it are
Some private schools, but all you have to do is not apply there. I know many students who took all there pre-reqs at a CC or most and applied and got in. All you have to do apply smart and broadly, ex: in-state. No where does it say you can't take courses/pre-reqs at a CC. I already have the majority of my pre-reqs done at a CC as well.
