Is it okay to retake a lot of classes?

So, I just freaked myself out by listing all the classes I would like to retake and it's high...like, 10 classes (please no judgement). I know formal postbacc programs basically have students taking this many courses, but I'm just imagining how crazy my DO application is going to look with all of those retakes. Has anyone had a problem when they've retaken that many classes? Any info regarding how my application will look with this many retakes (not what classes I should/shouldn't retake) would be greatly appreciated! 🙂

As someone in a similar position, I can only answer from my experience reading through these forums. That being said, it really doesn't matter how many class you retake as long as you: a) ace all, or nearly all, of your retakes, b) can articulate how you have grown, changed, and matured in regards to your academic improvement, c) have an otherwise strong/exceptional/exemplary application (including EC's, LOR's, volunteering/clinical experience, MCAT) and d) apply early and broadly. Get that GPA and sGPA up above 3.2-3.4 preferably, do well on the MCAT and build a solid application, and you'll probably be OK. There are plenty of people on here that have gotten into medical school/are currently physicians, having dug themselves out of similar/deeper holes. Good luck!

If you dig a bit, you'll find posts of people with 20+ retakes. I think there was a guy who redid his entire 1-3rd years of undergrad. I think it should be fine as long as you do well.

Definitely retake as many as you can. Pre-interview all that matters is how high your overall cGPA and sGPA are. Post-interview can't really say, but I don't think it is an issue.

I retook quite a few classes (8ish) as I had taken most many years ago as part of an engineering degree. So needed them to be more recent and quite a few were in the c range because engineering required a different focus than premed. I'm accepted so it worked out. Just don't retake and earn Cs or lower. Also be ready to explain why in interviews.

Quit fussing; I've seen people re-do entire UG degrees.

The whole purpose of AACOMAS grade replacement is to do exactly what you're thinking about doing.

Just do well.
