...to take the Kaplan course with a full time course load. I don't really know anyone who has taken the courses. Everyone that I know has taken their course either took it for the MCAT (don't know if it is comparable) or has taken an accelerated course while not doing anything else. What do you guys think?

its a waste of money to take it with a full time course load. kaplan course lasts for about a month 4 hours a day 3 times a week. i dont think its possible to manage full time classes and the prep course together but do what you gotta do and good luck

no it's not possible. however i signed up for it anyways for a few reasons. it's been like 3 years since i've seen gchem or any biology. i know that getting early exposure was important for me so the material could slowly saturate its way back into my brain.

however, having a full time class load i strictly focused on perception, math, and reading problems when i had time. i believe this is why i am kicking so much ass on perception today. i left the sciences for this summer. kaplan has a deal where if you do all your homework (i just would answer A on all the assignments if i didn't actually have time to try) and you don't miss any classes you can get the higher score guarantee extension. my kaplan office offered it so make sure yours does too if you decide to do this. so i had my classes in the fall and used all my online resources for the summer.

honestly, i think the class is kinda a waste of money (but it's only ~$200 more than the material package anyways). the BEST thing is their online material. it extends the information from the kaplan book by 1000x especially for biology. it's awesome. (that is if you take the subject practice exams and then read the answers and logic behind your right and wrong answers)

ps- the classes are long and really boring. perception days were pretty much the only days i actually learned anything. class is super basic and depending on your teacher a waste of time.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't even think I really need the course, but I heard it could be helpful. The materials that you get from the class, can they be purchased without me actually taking it?

Well here's my take. Over the summer I took Orgo 1, Orgo 2, Human Anatomy, Human Physiology AND Kaplan. I got two A's in P&A, an A in O-lab, and a B+, and B in O-1 and 2 respectively. DAT is on Monday and I've been getting 20's on the practice tests. SO, YES, it's something that can be done. Keep in mind that I litterally had NO life for the last couple of months but I tend to do really well when I have everything going on at once. Also, the courses I took were EXCELLENT prep for the DAT so that limited how much of everything else I actually needed to study. We'll see how I do on the real DAT, though.

I'm also going to be the outspoken one here who actually believes that Kaplan was worth the money. Do you know how much you're going to be spending on licensing exams!?? Plus, if you're going to try to mix DAT studying with schoolwork, the class was invaluable in keeping me on track. Treat the DAT like a regular class and then figure out what you can handle from there. And the people on here who claim they are studying 8 hours/day for 6 months either have very poor retension, very poor recall, or are lying. There's no reason you need to spend that kind of time just on the DAT!

Anyway, sorry for the rant. I'm on a short fuse right now with the test coming up. I just want this summer to END! Short of it though, is that you can do whatever you want to do if you dedicate yourself to it. Good luck and PM me if you have any questions.
