I waited four years after high school to go back to college. in three semesters I accumulated: 12 W, 2 F, 2 D, 1 A, with 2 repeats. After about a half a year off, I now due to graduate with my LPN soon with a 3.0 GPA. I am still undecided whether to continue with nursing or business. With my early academic record is it too late for me to go DO? Will CLEP test replace the Ws,Fs, and Ds?

From what I have read on SDN, I have seen people come from far worse situations than yourself and still go on to enter medical school. The good news is that grade replacement will be your saving grace. However, I don't think CLEP tests will replace the grades (well, someone more knowledgeable can answer this). The best move you made here is taking the Ws, because these are not factored into grading, even for MD schools as well.

Retake the courses you have a D or less in and try to maintain a high GPA (don't settle for anything less than a 4.0, just have this mentality). Then make sure you take the MCAT and do well, because it has saved a lot of people will low GPAs in the past. There is a lot here to say about applying to medical school, so I would suggest looking around the forums with the search feature and I am sure you will find the rest.

Good luck!

I was told so many Ws with MD schools especially 12 is pretty much frowned upon. Is this not true? Thanks for your help as well. It's very much appreciated.

Your best bet will be DO schools. But you still have to raise your sGPA and GPA to 3.25+ and score a 28+ on mcat

CLEP means nothing for med school admissions. The MCAT is the required test.

I recommend retaking all F/D/C science coursework and applying to DO schools.

It is frowned up, but if you show 2+ years of radical improvement, then medical schools will realize you are serious. I went to a UC Davis conference several years ago and there was one older lady (medical student) talking about her experiences applying to medical school. She pretty much had a 1. something GPA for a couple of years before she dropped out. However, she came back in with a 3.8 GPA, completed her baccalaureate degree, and had acceptances to a few medical schools. So it can be done, but make sure you show consistences for a few years and then apply.

Got it. I think I will just go ahead finish school hard and see where I am at. I'm first gen college student & HS grad in my immediate family, plus AA. Maybe I'll still have a chance.
