Hiii guys, so I am really starting to freak out. I am still working on secondaries and some of mine have been over 2 weeks and into the 3 weeks-1 month time frame. Is it too late to submit secondaries at this point? How bad is it if I submit a secondary shortly after 3 weeks. Any input helps🙂 Thank you!

Prevailing wisdom is that if your secondaries are in before Labor Day, you’re in good shape. Obviously this doesn’t apply to secondaries that have a stated due date, but that’s not typically the case.

You’re more than fine. Relax. Nobody on the admissions committee has time to pick your application out of the thousands they receive and deeply analyze how long it took you to respond to their secondary request.

If you have a great app you’ll be fine. If not, it won’t matter. Now stop freaking out on SDN and get back to working on those secondaries 😉

That phrase made me LOL
Indeed.... adcom members just have sooo much free time..... why not also analyze the timestamps for the 10K applications..

Precisely. I know we have a lot to be neurotic about, but I think the “two week secondary deadline” is one of the more irrational premed myths.

If you think about the logistics of a rule like that for more than two seconds, you realize how impractical it would be to enforce.

I promise you that schools are not keeping track of how long it takes you to fill out their secondaries. We have much better things to worry about, such as whether the college football playoff will expand to sixteen teams and when they'll restock the soda machine in the faculty lounge.
