hi
after not getting any interviews at md schools, I have decided to go do.
there are some schools whose deadlines are march 15. I have everything ready, its just copy/paste from my md app.
should i spend the money or am i screwed?
by the way, how do you address the question "why DO?"
I have shadowed a DO and an MD and I see no difference in the way they practice.

Is it really not past deadlines for DO schools? I'd say apply next year man, maximize chances.

At this point, by the time your primary gets through AACOMAS, assuming you haven't done that yet, you'll be well past deadline.

If you already have AACOMAS done and you're ready to submit secondaries, which it doesn't seem like is the case, you'd still be interviewing for a waitlist at best by the time you get your secondary through screening.

Plenty of schools are done interviewing now, the rest are extremely full.

I don't think it's a worthwhile use of your money, wish I could tell you differently!

Actually, many DO schools have an official deadline of April 15th so, no, for some of the DO schools it is not past the deadline. At this point, though, with rolling admissions most schools have probably almost filled their class and your chances will be limited. I agree with LastPolarBear and I think at this point why not just aim to be one of the first DO applicants for next year? The AACOMAS for next year opens up in May (in just 2 months!) and you can submit in June and maximize your chances with an early application.

Sorry, but it is too late imo. No school does first interviews past mid April, many are done now, and it'll take a few weeks for a school to read your app.

I'd also recommend to save your money, wait until June and apply for the next cycle. I don't have every school's deadline in front of me but I'm pretty sure those March/April deadlines are for secondaries and you'd be turning in your primary. In terms of "Why DO?" you'll want to read about the osteopathic philosophy and see how that personally relates to the way you want to practice medicine.

Good luck! Wish it could have been better news.

Ditto to what others have said about it being late to apply.

Just keep in mind most DO schools want a LOR from a DO.

You're looking at supplemental deadline not primary. Only 3 schools have a deadline of April 1st (the OP won't be finalized before Mar 15th).

OP: Logically you're dead in the water, stastically you're barely alive at LECOM-E, LECOM-B and Touro-NY.

I agree, you need to wait.

Still not convinced? haha, here's one more opinion:

You're beat. Apply early next cycle!

The OP wants to start medical school asap thats why the need to apply now. It would have been wise to apply to both MD and DO schools, at least to have a second option if no MD interviews/acceptance are offered.

OP, listen to the advice everyone is giving you on here, just apply next cycle which will be for your own benefit.

I think it depends on your stats. I am guessing that AACOMAS would verify your application very quickly right now since they probably have no volume. There are lots of schools that are still taking secondaries right now. Several schools continue to interview for spots into April. I know this for a fact with RVU and LECOM.

I would say if your MCAT is atleast 28 and you GPA is over 3.5, go for it. If you are motivated, you will get in somewhere.

Yet again awesome advice from Rob C 🙄... read above, he won't be verified by this next Tuesday therefore there are only 3 schools that will accept his primary.

Stop posting random crap if you don't know wtf you're talking about.

Likewise.

I believe the March 15 deadline is to have everything into AACOMAS, not verified. Even if you are correct about that, the OP would have a good chance of getting into one of the LECOM programs if his stats are good, especially LECOM-B.

The best way not to suceed is not to try.

The stats you quoted him were average.

Keep up the
:bullcrap:

Not for LECOM. His main decision is whether he would be willing to attend LECOM if he is accepted there.

I will let you all know how it works out for me. I technically didn't apply that late but because of a january mcat, my file wasn't considered complete until recently. All secondaries are done. I do think I'll be getting some interviews.

We get it, you were turned down by LECOM.

Edit: OP, apply this year and then send the bill to Rob C when you don't get in.

Wrong again. You are going to make a lawyer very rich someday.

Didn't know lawyers could make money from people that try to help others avoid bad advice on the interWebz.

Unless of course you were referring to how this thread correlates to making clinical decisions...but of course only someone who is a complete jacka.. would make that kind of assumption.

To the OP, RobC finished secondaries at the end of December and seems to think it is good advice to tell others that late applications are just fine. He apparently doesn't realize that finishing a secondary by Jan. 1 is clearly not the same as submitting a primary on March 11, waiting to get verified, and then submitting secondaries by March 25 or so.

At this point in the application cycle, your stats need to be better than the average (I applied Feb 1 with a 29/3.72, and got 1 interview which turned into an acceptance...I was EXTREMELY lucky). The people I interviewed with had either a great MCAT or a great GPA, or better than average on both.

I know Touro-NY has apparently extended a deadline to early May (they sent me a secondary which I do no intend on filling out), so they may be a somewhat feasible option, but it's still unlikely. I know LECOM stops interviewing by mid-April at the latest, so you're only giving yourself a few weeks to be reviewed and interviewed, and there are many people on the waiting lists at all schools by now. Also, do you have a DO letter? You'll need one for most schools...

To RobC, why do you hate LECOM so much? You seem to take every opportunity to take a shot at the school...Something had to have happened to make you this disgruntled...

If you decide to apply this cycle, good luck, but if you apply next year to both MD/DO schools (early...like June), you may be able to decide among several acceptances, which is always nice.

Touro NY is one of the secondaries I submitted, LECOM also.

I think LECOM is fine. The reason why someone would have to decide whether they want to attend is because their unique ciriculum does not fancy everyone.

My best wishes to everyone who goes there.

Fair enough. Good luck to you at whichever school you've decided to attend.

Wow a false assumption and then an ignorant opinion based on that assumption. Need I say more.

What type of doctor gets sued the most?? Rude doctors.

I don't see where I made a false assumption or an ignorant opinion.

But I'm sure as long as you base all your decisions on life with the rule that since it worked out for n=1 (1=self), it will work out for everyone...I'm sure you'll go a long way with that thinking.

And since I have yet to see you post anything worthwhile, let alone any advice I'd let my worse enemy follow, I think I'll utilize the ignore feature of SDN.

Good luck in your future endeavors.

I don't know if you'll get any interviews this late but if you do get interviews I think you'll be in a good position. Finishing dental school will go a long way.
