is it true that NBDE Part I questions are really harder?

I'm hearing people ( especially on this forum ) talk of how Part I is a lot harder than the questions on old ASDA test papers and the sample questions posted on the ADA website.

Exactly what is it that makes Part I harder? Is it because they're now covering topics that were previously not asked? Or is it because the questions are longer and worded differently?

Please help.

The Questions are more in depth, you need to understand the subject from basic to detail, all review books give an overview which is not sufficient to crack the test.DECKS are based from Old q asda q banks, thats it,and out of 400 questions only 50 are repeats so decks and asda q bank cannot even help u pass these days.
Study each subject from the basics to the end, cover all topics in the curriculam.Do text books for basic reference ,usmle videos cover the complete subject they help along with lecture notes.
Do review books in the end.along with decks and q banks.

In my experience, the majority of the questions were similar in scope and depth to the questions on the released exams. Very few were word for word repeats, but many similar concepts.

The testlets portions were another story however. Poorly written, completely from left field, and left me wondering "Is this material even supposed to be on Part 1?"

I took the exam last Friday (2/27) and Armorshell is 100% correct regarding the testlets....Several of them or 1/3rd of them were from left field. Generally speaking, I felt they provided you with very little information regarding symptoms etc, but required you to be able to diagnose a condition (a generic example would be, "lab results indicate increased phosphorus... which of the following 4 bone conditions would be a proper diagnosis for this pt? If you studied the decks, two of the answer choices would be conditions you would have never seen before).

There also seemed to be a lot of micro that was not on the decks.....
If you study only the decks and old exams....I feel that you will think it is a hard exam because there WILL be mulitple conditions or bugs you will not have studied...

Just my experience....
