I mean, not just because you are curious about your status, but to actually let them know you love them?

it seems that they are very busy and would rather not hear from a bunch of anxious applicants.

but do the people who answer the phones keep a log and tell the admissions officers that "Joe X has called again, he must really want to go here, let's invite him for an interview." Or "Joe hasn't called, he must not care about getting an interview from us." Or "Joe called again. He is really needy, let's reject him."

Do they care at all? I have 6 interviews and I am happy with that, but I would like to hear from a bunch of others. Must I call them all?

I wouldn't do it. It's unlikely they're going to transcribe the phone conversation and put it in your file, although I heard some schools keep track of calls if you give your name. Anyways, writing an email/letter seems like a better option, and those WILL usually go in your file.

I wouldn't keep calling. The offices are busy enough as it is.
