While I have heard a lot about how great Kaplan biochem is, I have heard nothing about its micro section. Is Kaplan Micro deficient or something? If you're not a fan of micro made ridiculously simple, would it be a mistake to just study Kaplan (and First Aid) for micro?

Yes in my opinion, kaplan Micro Sucks!! You have to watch the Kaplan videos for the text to make sense, otherwise it is just lots of points with no understanding. If you are already well versed in Micro is it sufficient, otherwise, you are better off with MMRS first, then move on to some more detailed stuff.
Anyway, good luck!!

The micro guy sucks though... he's isn't a very good teacher, so there's another strike again you.

Why couldn't Goljan teach everything! *sigh*

Hey, are you saying that the webprep micro guy sucks? I was planning on listening to it along with the kaplan notes.

I just cant help, but agree with Dr. PAk on thi sone. This fellow has to be the most boring guy around... 👎
Just reading, not even putting in your own words hardly qualifies as good teaching. He is so boring....

Are you all talking about Dr. Dunn? he is the webprep guy, is he even worth listening to at all or is MMRS much better?

Thanks!

Yep, Don Dunn. He basically just reads the text, no real teaching.

Having said that, a lot of people stick to kaplan for micro. Combined with FA, it's enough. I've been advised to do micro without listening to the lectures, just read the text myself. Same goes for immunology, which is also taught by Don Dunn.

When you say that a lot of people stick with Kaplan for micro do you mean, they listen to the audio? I may just end up listening to it regardless, I just hope it is not a complete waste of time. Do you have any info on the other kaplan webpep teachers? Anyone really good or bad? I have only listened to Barone for path and I am going to stick with Goljan for that instead. Any advice/help is appreciated!!

I don't know about the webprep, I was referring to the Kaplan lectures (video+audio). From my understanding the webprep are just audio right? In any case, the quality of the teaching would be the same if the teachers are the same.

Barone is terrible - of course you'll have to stick to Goljan for patho

Stephen Daughtery for Behavioral Science is awesome.

Robert Dunn for physio is okay. He can be extremely monotonous at times, but he does teach and not just read the text. In the Goljan audio, Goljan talks about another physio lecturer, Passo, whom he praises a lot. If I were you, I'd give Passo a try if Goljan recommends him so much.

Trevor of Pharma is good. He's the Trevor of "Trevor and Katzung's Pharmacology". He's the "fake from england" that Goljan keeps joking about in his lectures. Trevor adds a lot of background to the lecture notes, so I'd definately listen to him.

I've got Lionel Raymond for Biochem. He's okay, he does teach the subject, but he won't be winning any Mr. Charisma contests anytime soon. Goljan talks VERY highly of Hansen for Biochem. I haven't listened to her, but again if Goljan recommends her as "one of the best in the country" I'd go for her, given the choice.

Hope this helps.

Ya, thanks a lot for your help.

The webprep teachers are:
Immuno: Moscatello
Anatomy: White
Biochem and Pharm: Raymon
Behavioral: Daugherty
Physio: Dunn

So, I am glad to hear that at least some of those are ok...of course, no one compares to Goljan.... 😍

White for anatomy is great too.... can't believe I missed out an entire subject!

You should look at Rapid Reviw Microbiology/Immunology. Excellent USMLE type questions on CD, with great tables in the book for learning information.

will someone be able to tell me where I can find this webprep?

thanks for any help
