I tried to search for a similar topic, but most people had really low VR scores so the advice was different than what I need.

I just got my MCAT score back, and it's a 30. My break down is kind of unbalanced though with 13 VR, 8 PS, and 9 BS. Should I retake?

Thanks.

I agree with the above poster. I ended up with a 9/14/10 for an unbalanced 33. Had I gotten any, 7s I would have had to retake. Had I gotten an 8.... well... I just don't like to think about that. Still, a 33 is a great score.

If you are doing well in VR, I say retake it. BS/PS are easier to bring up. You got that critical reasoning/thinking skills. Posters from SDN are right that usually anything less than 10 on bs/ps are just lacking in contents review. it should be easy for you.
For most, especially myself, the hard part is developing that critical reasoning/think skill.

I KNOW I need to retake. I'm just not sure if I should go through with this cycle. I've got my transcripts and letters in, but I'm afraid to submit prior to a retake. If I take it in August, can I then send the schools an update, or will they automatically throw out my application based on my bad first test?

Concur strongly. If you're really gung ho for MD, then a re-take of MCAT might be called for. Howwever, if you have a decent GPA (>3.5), then I'd rule against it.

It depends on what schools you want to apply to. Are you applying DO, MD or some combination of the two?

Your overall is 30, so you won't be automatically screened on overall score. However, some schools have individual score screenings ( don't know which schools, but I would imagine a search of the forums would turn up some answers. I believe that an 8 in PS "might" screen you at some schools but not many.)

Check it out based on where you're applying.
