Yes this is a what's called the Mead's 3 stage of development!
Role taking is the concept of 3 different stages where kids starts with imitating their parents, next comes the "role-play" like being a chef around the house or the mom, and finally we start taking our own role as a quarterback, wide receiver, etc in a game or society in this case.
