In my school there are two anthropology classes that are also fulfill natural science requirements (I know I didn't have to use them as I had all of the other premed + science classes, but I am an anthropology major and was wondering if they should/could be used as BCPM classes). Would those classes be BCPM classes according to AMCAS?

Anthropology 105-- Human evolution (Human evolution and variability and principles of biological adaptation)

Anthropology 231-- Fossil humans (different interpretations of human evolution; principles of evolutionary biology; survey of the biology and behavior of living primates)

So, what do you guys think... I could readlly use the help.

Don't think you should include the latter, but you may have a case for the former.

It's funny, because the former is the one that is cross listed. It's officially a bio class... which makes it difficult, since on my transcript I took it as an anthropology student.

I didn't list which class was also bios because I had the same feeling as you and wanted to get other people's opinion without them knowing which was which....

any more opinions out there?

If it said Bio 4503 or something I think you'd be ok, but if it says Anthro 4503, you're going to have a tough time proving that it is the same class as Bio 4503. I'd just call it Anthro.

I know that is the brutal part of the whole deal. I don't know if the transcript states "anth231/bios247" or if it just gives the anth231. The title, Fossil Humans" does not give much about the subject matter in the class.

Did you not get a copy of your transcript to help you enter your grades into the application?

I would send an email to AMCAS with this question. Include details. Find a university catalog with the course details in it and be prepared to make your case. They'll be able to answer much better than we can 🙂

That's a good point. I was planning sending an email to AMCAS, but I figured that they get about a million of these emails and they might take about a year to answer or not answer it at all. I figured I might just give it a shot here.

Thanks for all the help 🙂

I asked a question similar to this on the AMCAS thread in the pre-allo forum. It was said that the content of the course and not whether the course is in a particular department determines if it is BCMP.

someone stated they had a class in the psychology dept that was really nueroscience and after submitting it, it went through.

How did the person go about describing the contents of the class?
