It's obviously not real. I don't think Harvard accepts until the spring.

These discussions never end well. 🙄

Yeah!! I just realized that this is my 300th post!!!!

Anyway, I have a hard time beleiving this guy really got into Harvard, UCLA, and UCSD. I wouldn't even think they'd look at him with such a low GPA and MCAT, especially this early.

(If this is you, I'm sorry. I'm not trying to be a jerk.)

this person isn't even urm... or else it would be believable

If George W. Bush is the President of the United States of American, then yes, this is possible.

Oh, I'd written something else by mistake and had to edit the post. That was all I could think to put in place. It means nothing.

EDIT: ^ that post you see above is what I had posted...I thought it had been somebody else that had made the first post regarding the sentence that makes no sense (that makes perfect sense, actually).

PS: Your avatar scares me.

If it seems fake, it isually is. mdapplicants is plagued by fakes, which they fix whenever they are identified. Don't believe everything you read on the internet. Or if you do, I have a nice bridge to sell you, cheap.

Oh gosh you can not be serious.

Well, I'll rephrase. That quote makes no sense.

I think it does, "youre licked" here means that your a** is kicked basically. Isnt this from To Kill a Mocking Bird?

Yeah, that guy's my friend Jude Law. He's actually so good looking that Harvard and UCLA both accepted him 4 months before sending out any other acceptances. He's totally irresistable.

It's his ECs.

"Shadowed, Tutored middle schooler"

 haha, i actually thought that there would be more profiles like this one floating around. Obviously fake because harvard is non-rolling 👍

Yes, it's from To Kill a Mocking Bird.

who cares if people put up fake profiles on mdapps? don't get psyched out by imaginary stuff - real pre-meds are scary enough.

hate to inform you but contrary to SDN stupid ignorant beliefs, URMs wouldn't get in with this score and gpa. search for urms at these schools and you'll find that the majority made at least a 30 mcat and had at least a 3.5 gpa. so for the last time ppl on sdn think before you type ignorant bull**** as if its a fact. skin color isn't an automatic ticket for a 25 mcat and less than 3.0 gpa.

hate to break it to you, but the average for URMs is significantly lower... the average black medschool matriculant last year had a 25.3 MCAT 3.39 gpa.

*please dont kill the messenger. I am for affirimative action... just think the facts should be out there.

i never said the average URM wasn't lower even down to a 25. i said the average URM at harvard and ucla aka "those schools" is definitely not a 25. just wanted to get that out there.

I always figured extreme top end schools like Harvard didn't need to practice race-based AA.

However, this thread is challenging my beliefs.

Are these profiles real? Surely there are more qualified URMs? Why wouldn't Harvard accept the most qualified URMs? Or is this just an example of Harvard's "happy bottom quarter" theory in practice?

you dont think a 30mcat and 3.5 gpa getting into harvard is the exact meaning of an automatic ticket? do u know what they do to asians who apply with a 30 mcat and 3.5 gpa? its actually a trick question because there are no asians with scores that low

His post sec education is "UC Riverside"??

Never heard of it

Yes it is a school. It's pertty far down the ladder in terms of UCs but it does exist. Located in Riverside, CA in SoCal.

Personally I don't mind how URMs are helped by aff action. I just wish it didn't make things worse for the brown guy, or the east asians. As for the stats posted- it could entirely be an acceptance due to an interview. Some URMs I know have been through great odds to get where they are and apply, some have stories to share that would make the average middle class white/asian suburban applicant seem like a brat. medical schools are not just looking for stats, but perserverence, fortitude, etc. So enough with stat comparisons of URM and non-URM, it's based on much more.

never said it wasn't an automatic ticket i said that a 23 wasn't and that's low for anyone applying to harvard/ucla regardless of race. and i hope you are joking about the asia thing b/c i've seen like a whole lot of less than 3.5s or 30 mcats on mdapplicants. i wonder why everyone feels the need to attack, i guess its just a matter of semantics: this is what i'm saying for the last time: i doubt you'll get into harvard or ucla even if you are a URM. the majority of URMs at harvard/ucla have mcats closer to 30 than 23. in each of these above instances, i am sure some exceptions exist as expected in any case. good day.

yea man i feel you, indians and east-asians get shafted hard. plus, a lot of them also come from less-privileged socio-economic backgrounds. its hard for me not to think about how I'd be having it so much better if I was given a fair shot. but, then again, i think AA is a good thing in general. wish it just selected for URMs that had hard upbringings/socioeconomic background.

Then why does the system give preferences to average middle class URMs?

Limiting AA to poor URMs who have been through great odds while showing perserverence and fortitude and you'll probably net around a dozen applicants out of 30,000, if that much.

Dunno- I was just commenting on how I know quite a few URMs who have gone through a lot, and am glad they get that extra bump from adcom. AA does more harm than good, I'll give you that.

all i can say is that honestly, if i were a URM with a privleged background, i wouldnt list my race on the application. but hey, im (un)lucky enough to not have that problem. im asian indian. booyah!

what if you come from an asian URM nationality? for instance tibetan or mongolian? or as in my case- half burmese (the other half is paki-american)

there is no such thing as an asian URM nationality, at least im pretty sure there isnt. you're going to be under the umbrella of 'asian.'

No, the AAMC has to designate your racial group as URM regardless of whether or not your racial group is URM. The process is political. For example, mainland Puerto Ricans are URMs but off-mainland Puerto Ricans are not.

URMs are Blacks, Mexican-Americans, Native Americans and mainland Puerto Ricans.

but the burmese are so underrepresented! my entire life, i've only met like two besides my family. wishful thinking though, you're right.

yea, but unless you've had a very rough socioeconomic upbringing, would you take advantage of URM status if you could?

I think its unethical to... but hey, its a competitive process... at the same time its good to take any edge you can get.

Dude, I'd even be willing to sell an organ...Kidding- na I wouldn't. Although growing up I wasn't exactly rich, it never got in the way of my education. Besides, I'd like to know I got into medical school because by proving myself, not due to some slack cut by adcom.

I actually know this guy. He's George Dub's cousin, close friend to Bill Gates, and Bill Clinton's brother-in-law. He has far more "qualifications" than any of us combined.

lol who cares, hahah, knowing if some one else is real isn't goign to help you get in.

i love how pretty much every thread turns into a urm flamewar if its active for long enough.
