HI all,
So it is Oct now, and I only had 1 interview so far with Lecom. I have heard absolutely nothing from the rest of 15 schools I applied to. I am nervous and freaked out now. What is wrong with my app??? I have seen guys with stats lower or similar to mine got invites to those schools I applied to. But not for me, not a single word. No rejection, no response either. I dun think this is too early anymore in the cycle to not get freaked. I am frustrated, I have a feeling that non of other schools like me....but why??? Is anymore having the same issues??? I just do not get it...I have average stat, but I did not apply to way up there kinda schools. Why no single beep, why why why??? Please help me think straight.

bcp 3.42
ogpa 3.42
sgpa 3.3
DAT 20/21/21 nothing below 20.

What schools did you apply to? When was your app complete?

Sorry that things aren't shaking out the way you'd like, teriyaki! If it's any consolation, all you need is one, which you've got! As for why you haven't gotten more interviews, here are some thoughts:

Everything that is said on here in reference to "chances," is largely conjecture. We all have the same admissions data (avg. reported GPA and DAT) and all have some rudimentary sense of statistics; if you're way below the mean we tend to think your 'chances' are not good, way above, the opposite. Because that is really the only quantifiable data we have to understand the admissions process, we tend to place a lot of importance on those two criteria. While they very well may be the two most important components of an application, by no means are they the only two.

We all have a basic idea of what we think admissions committees want to see on an application - exposure to dentistry, volunteerism, interests and passions outside of the field, etc. Going through the paces and checking off your boxes, so to speak, is great - I think a lot of those activities build character, professionalism, a sense of responsibility. But I think what is sometimes neglected in the advice given on here is that the application is your opportunity to show the admissions committee why they should choose you. There are a ton of opportunities in AADSAS and secondaries to write about your experiences and what you've gained/learned from those experiences - use them wisely! Write succinctly, professionally, and truthfully.

I know this is all a little after the fact, being that you've already applied, but could it be you didn't talk about your experiences in a compelling way? I know some people shrug off the personal statement, but I really do think it was big part of my application.

Or it could just be that you didn't cast your net far and wide enough? I think 7 schools is a little slim.

Best of luck, I hope things turn around for you!

There are 60+ schools and you only applied to 7??
Don't panic yet. Lots of schools do later interviews, into February, March and April. Roseman is one of those schools. I gave tours to applicants in May last year and all 4 of the students ended up in this years D1 class. Have patience!!!

same here. I have slightly above average stats and have heard very little. The people with lower stats getting interviews are often non-trads and so maybe the schools cut a little more slack with the stats.

Like you, my app wasn't exactly completed the earliest batch. I think you are just going to have to wait it out. Wait until December or January for more interview invites. If you receive a Dec and January interview invite, you definetley have a chance of being still accepted. If you don't hear anything after Jan, then maybe you should worry.

I do agree you should have applied to more than 7 schools.

Good luck👍

LOL.

I am a traditional, NON-URM, with average DAT scores (lower for most of schools I applied to) and have several interviews.

Well it's obvious isn't it? Your stats are below average and something else is "missing" from your app. None of us can say what that is. Good luck!

That's why I said 'often' and not 'always'. 👍

I am in similar situation, got only two interviews out of 16 schools but I am glad those two schools gave me the opportunity for interview....I applied late july and completed august for most schools, now hoping that the other schools dont reject me yet until update of my new grades in December!!
Lets hope there still chance for post december interviews
I think you should start calling schools to get update on your status..
in my case I am gonna wait till november then will start calling them to ask if they can wait for my master degree grades before they make decisions!!
good luck and hope you get at least one more interview

This kind of sht literally makes me feel hopeless lmao. no interviews from anywhere??? i didn't apply yet, and i will next cycle as early as possible but im 3.1 sgpa...no hope i say...

Thanks guys for all of the inputs. I did actually apply to 15 schools, I forgot to mention about UNLV, Mid-western, ATSU, UCSF, Boston and Tufts. I just got rejection from ATSU 🙁( The rest are just silent. I heard from Lecom pretty early in the cycle, did my best during the interview. I hope I can get in there, really nice school with great focus on under-served areas.
As for the PS and all of the supplemental application, I did them all to my best knowledge and professionalism. I certainly did not take them lightly at all because I know I am not the hottest applicant out there with amazing scores and such. Maybe, I could not bring out the potential in the application yet. As for now, the only choice is to wait and stop looking at SDN for a while, especially the interview, acceptance thread.
I planed on master if I could not get in this year. It seems like my last resort before this whole thing turns sour. Good luck guys, I thank you for all the inputs. It really helps me 🙂

I'm in a similar situation as well. Applied to 11 schools and only interview was at LECOM as well.

Application was sent 3rd batch.
3.35 science, 3.36 BCP, and 3.48 non-science, and 3.37 overall.
23 AA, 24 TS, 21 PAT, 24 RC
Great ECs including writing my own research thesis and scholarship for it, working, volunteering, shadowing, etc. I thought I wrote a good PS, but then again, I'm biased since I wrote it.

Haven't heard anything from the other schools, except Deferral from University of Iowa. I'm still keeping my hope up until I get rejected from schools. Lots can happen from now until April. Just got to have some faith in the system and be happy that we had the one interview at LECOM already. All we need is one acceptance!

This is the right attitude! You can only ever attend one anyway, and all you need is that one. 👍

Definitely. I appiled to 21 schools. As of now I only have three interviews, and guess what? I'm so grateful and happy to have those opportunities.

You stat and mine are pretty the same, except that you have such a good DAT. I have no doubts that you will land more interviews. As for Lecom, I love the school and absolutely grateful for what it has done for me. You are right, all we need is 1 acceptance for each of us.
How did your interview go anyway? and when did you have it? Thanks for sharing

Thanks for your kind words!

My interview with LECOM was on 9/12, and it went really well! I was very impressed with the school's facilities and I loved the surrounding area of Sarasota. When was yours?

Mine was 1 month after you, on Oct 14. I was impressed by the honesty of the dean and the mission of the school to serve the under-served areas. My interview went well I guess. we were not asked so many questions, just basic stuff. Why dentistry, interesting facts about you, difficulty with PBL. I talked about the hometown which is Jacksonville, Florida (underserved area), about my volunteer activity at T-MOM. About the PBL, I honestly do not see any problems with it since I learned most on my own and through group studies during college anyway, the only thing is how to pick a good group but that wont be a problems since all of the students are smart and passionate about what they do. I am very optimistic with the program.

I just felt uneased since this is my only interview so far. How did yours go? Who interviewed you if you dun mind sharing

This sends a great motivational message out there. Thanks man! What school are you attending right now may I ask? I just need one acceptance...and I am praying everyday

I'd guess Roseman, given the location under his name.

I applied there too, from what I heard the school favors in state more. I did not do my homework carefully before applying. Anyway, it's been a week since my post up, and yeah no news at all, good or bad....still nothing. I think I am done for pre Dec interviews

As a new, private school, I don't think applying there was a bad call at all. With their avg accepted GPAs at 3.3/3.2, right around where you're at, I think that gamble was worth $90. The numbers suggest they do favor ISS - they interviewed 39% of in state applicants and accepted nearly all of them. 13% of out of state applicants were interviewed and of them, 73% were accepted. So I guess all I'm saying is don't get down in the dumps over your decision to apply there - definitely a lot more reasonable than applying to Southern Illinois U.

Chin up and stay positive, teriyanki!

Hey teriyaki, I did TMOM also when I was applying!
Don't feel discouraged about your one interview, a lot of my classmates got post-december interviews. Also, my undergraduate friend posted pictures of his DS1 year at LECOM and they are already doing dentures! How crazy!! I'm still waxing! Anyways I know just having one interview sucks right now, but that's all you need and I also got accepted at LECOM but chose to go to my state school. However, I did like LECOM when I interviewed there. GL and btw my stats weren't exceptional either: 20/19/19

Do u mind telling us what
Ur gpa is? And how many predec/post
Interviews u got? And acceptances?

When I applied I had a 3.7 overall and 3.65 science
Interview invites: UTHSCSA, LECOM, NOVA, NYU, MWU-AZ, ASDOH --> I accepted all the invites except ASDOH because I had gotten that one post december when I had already been accepted. That being said, the other 5 were pre december
Acceptances: NOVA, LECOM, MWU-AZ and UTHSCSA
I was wait-listed at NYU and then I think rejected later on haha I never really checked for my rejection letter.

Thanks dude, I am trying to keep my vibe up now. At least I got 1 chance to prove myself. Still...those sleepless nights just keep on coming at me. I am on edge all the time. Since I read Lecom interview thread...some ppl actually thought they did pretty well on the interviews ended up on alternate list and eventually rejected. I dun know, my stats are average, and I thought I did pretty well on the interview. Take my time, participate, comments others, wait for my turn, address my group mates as first names, eye contacts...Still cant help being nervous...I just need one, keep my finger crossed

I did 3 TMOM events with certificates that I sent them after interviews as follow up. But man, your stat are way better than mine. That explains all of your pre-dec interviews and such. I know I am done for pre-dec already. I just hope I got one more post dec, hanging on by 1 interview is like hanging on a tiny thread.
