Well, my trip is almost coming to a close. My camera's memory card has malfunctioned, so no pics.
🙁
Indy is a great town. So many shopping plazas and restaurants! The downtown mall is great and parking at the mall is 1$ for 3 hours.
Finding a place to live has been a challenge. We asked locals for tips on areas to live in. Most say, the farther you get away from downtown, the better. I've heard that you should find places that are at 38th St or above. Zip code 46214 is not in your best interest either. The NW area seems to be the "safest". 86th street is awesome (many shopping areas).
Of all the 10 places I visited, I'd say 8 of them looked like they were falling apart and were not in the best areas of town. I was considering Sebring Court because it was spacious and looked alright, but I later found out from a student on campus that numerous rapes had occured in that complex and the mgt was hiding it from tenants, so I crossed it off my list.

This site seems to be on target. Use caution however, b/c I hear that sometimes the mgt at places post "good ratings" for their own properties.
I feel like a freshman loser, but I've opted to live at the campus apartments...
🙄 I'll be paying $780ish/month in a 2 bedroom and get my own bathroom. That price covers everything (power, water, trash, basic cable, phone, internet, fully furnished) and you get to live with "professional students" (med, dent, law, grad, nursing, etc.) if you wish. You get a washer and dryer and all the standard kitchen appliances. The apartments are brand new. Only like 1-2 yrs old.
Most downtown apts are $700ish and up, but don't cover most expenses. Parking may be a bitch at the apartments if the spaces become limited, but the walk to the d-school is like 3 minutes from your room. You can drink in the dorms if you're 21 and you can't smoke inside. You also have announced cleaning inspections (i.e. we can't live like pigs). The contract is for an entire school year. No pets!
🙁 I will die without my kitties, but my sis can take care of them for a year.
I think it's the best option for me, considering I don't know the area very well, never have experienced harsh winters, and it might help me meet people on campus. It might be a bit safer too. After a year, I plan to get my own place with a dent roommate.
Happy hunting guys!
Ahmad and Bill, any input on pop. places to live would be great.
