Mock Boards?!?!?! :scared: The anxiety begins....................
Don't worry about the mock boards at all. You take a set at the start of each semester, and the idea is just to get you familiar with the test format, and you also get 4 sets of old exams to study from when the real thing comes later. Your performance on the mocks doesn't affect anything.

that is unless you perform below 50% in any one section. then you would have to repeat the year.

ok just kidding. you guys are stressing already. relax!

Good luck IUSD c/o 2k9!!

Thanks Aug.

I need to find a bank in Indy because my bank (Bank of America) has no branches in Indiana. Can any of you IN residents recommend one? Thanks 😀

I use Bank One, which has tons of branches in Indy as well as throughout the state.

IWUVTEEF,

i used to bank with B of A in CA. BankOne is the B of A of Indy. i think they have the most number of branches here compared with any other bank. you'll like them.

thanks people

i'll have to open an account with them when i get to Indy.

You know its funny.....I have not done the whole "study study study" thing in so long, I actually miss it. I am sick of having a life!!!! I am sick of having color in my face and my hair combed properly. I am sick of waking up on Sundays thinking, "Geez, what shall I do today?" I hate having the same old, "I don’t know. What do you want to do?" conversation with my friends. I hate getting enough sleep. I miss my sleep deprived days....... 😴 Sleeping at 5 am to wake up 7 am disoriented and confused asking "why and where have I woken up." I miss studying till long hours and tricking myself by saying, "Well if I sleep at 12 am, I could wake up at 3 am and study again." :meanie: Ya right. Instead you wake up 10 minutes before your scheduled test, cursing and hating yourself for falling for your own trick. I miss playing "see how many times you can smack the snooze button till the radio refuses to snooze any more!" You know what I miss the most? The bags under my eyes.......Ah yes, that gorgeous, grayish hue. Wow. I was a looker then. 😎

Count down continues: 51 days, 19 hours and 20 minutes till all this becomes a reality.

sahar, cherish the last free time you will have in a long time...

let's be study buddies. our study schedules match perfectly. except that i am able to wakeup at 3AM after the 3 hour nap. i can be the alarm clock for us both. 😛

LOL. I think that is what I need, a snooze button that will smack me back. Can't wait to study together. 🙂

um yeah say that again.
not trying to scare you or anything, but you honestly should enjoy your time off. you will have a lot of those "sleep deprived" days soon when you start anatomy. i dont miss being in that lab till 3 am day in out smelling like you know what and getting home late only to wake up 3 hrs later and go have another 15 hr day.

thank goodness you only have to do it for a little over a month. I STILL HATE ANATOMY. it was fun having so much to do but not when you just start dental school.

WOW! I am sooo jealous! I haven't had free time in ages...probably since winter break in december of last year. I'm still in school...trying to finish...and that means I'll have a month to pack, get those DAMN shots I have been putting off, mail my transcripts, find a place to live in Indy (which NO I STILL HAVEN'T DONE!)...hmmm...I know there's more, I'm just too stressed to remember it all right now.

Anyways, looks like I'm not going to be getting another break till d-school's over... :barf: ....i love my life.

Sorry i sound stressed...i just had an anger-management moment awhile ago.

AND OH! How come nobody even noticed I haven't been here for the past couple weeks...nobody even inquired as to where I was... 🙁 ...I'm deeply disappointed in u all......

j/k.

Anyways, i think this has gotta be the dumbest and most pointless message thingy i've written... 😀 ...I just wanted to bump our thread up to the front again...

see u all soon...

OK....So i have real questions for u all (i know u're thinking thank GOD she's not posting another ******ed message). Please try to answer me...and dont just skip over and ignore...(i know u wouldn't do that anyways, right?!? 😉 )

Anyways, ok...

1) When I go to onestart to look under my financial aid status stuff...it still shows NOTHING!....Does everyone else have their stuff already there??? Am I the only loser without financial aid?? Cuz, i remember them saying we should have it up my mid May...and May is almost over...

2) I just got a long ass email about some computer registration something... 😕 ...what the hell is that? Did you all get that?

OK...gotta go...ANSWER ME!....please.... 🙂

Don't stress Ms. Gold.

It will all work out fine.

Nope, no info on aid for me either.

Yep, got the long ass e-mail. I just skimmed it. We just basically have to register on some security site with our log-in info. There is an attachment on the e-mail with some info, but I didn't find it very useful... But I must go re-read it to be sure.

Cheers! 😀

I am with you on the financial aid stress. I keep thinking something is going to go wrong and I can't go to dental school due to insufficient funds.

No financial aid info here. Dude, where is the money going to come from? 😕

btw, if you guys are able to log onto onestart (in other words have a user ID/PW), you may wanna check this site out.

https://plato.iusd.iupui.edu/

you could view te class websites, pics, and some other info that will keep you busy for a while.

Thanks for the link Perfect. I have also been wondering about the financial aid, so I called Paul Koch last week. He said that we should be getting info sent to us very soon for the summer aid. After that we have to fill out a master promissory note online before the loans can go through. The money won't be disbursed until right before classes start, so once they take their share for tuition, we won't get ours until the week before classes at the earliest. Because of this, we have to buy the laptop ourselves and get reimbursed from the loans. Kind of a bummer. On a brighter note, it's already showing a class on onestart when I click on "Register for classes" and look at the summer enrollment. Still waiting for Head and Neck Anatomy though. ô¿ô 👍

glad you could get in. i am sure there are a bunch of links that would be interesting for you to read and browse through.

as for your classes and finaid, dont worry. everything will be fine.

the big race is almost here...

does Indy go buck wild? do most people stay indoors to avoid the madness?

this would be my 1st experience here with the race so i couldnt tell you what would happen. besides, even if i wanted to find out i couldnt since i cant do anything but study study till June 3rd.

i do know one thing though. there are 3 things that Indy has going for it.

basketball
football
race

Unless you're going to the race yourself, just stay as far as you can from 16th St. & Crawfordsville Rd. on Memorial Day weekend. It's a huge event, but it's also a titanic PITA if you're not interested and just trying to get through. 😉

Yes, Indy gets a touch rowdy during the Memorial Day weekend. I recommend that if you don't like obnoxiously drunk people stay away from the Speedway.

ah, will make a note to avoid that area next year...

for H&N anatomy, do we get a whole cadaver or a severed cadaver? 😱

Today I dropped off a jar to an oral surgeon's office and talked with him for a few seconds. I asked how he liked IUSD, and his only response was "grab your ankles and apply lots of KY Jelly."

Can't wait to meet you all and tackle this beast!!

You get the whole thing. Don't worry, I'll be there to help you take it apart. 😉

Remind me again why I am going to apply to IU? I've heard that sentiment from 3 different dentists- including one who is on the teaching staff. :scared:

Have anyone received any financial aid information for IUSD yet???? i was told we suppose to get them by mid May, its almost June and i haven't heard anything yet.

welcome to IU. the finaid dept has been a concern for many for a while but things will get better soon. dont worry, you will be fine.

I just got an email linking to a site to sign the master promissory note, so hopefully they will have their stuff straightened out before long. When I look on onestart, it only shows enough aid for one class, but it says it will be adjusted to reflect how many hours we're registered for. I'm sure once head and neck gets added, the aid amount will go up. Can anyone tell me if head and neck anatomy only deals with the neck up or if we'll look at the whole body briefly and concentrate on the head region.

No fin aid info for me. I'm guessing the process is more complicated for the out-of-staters. I'll call the fin aid office next week if I don't see any progress by the end of the week.

For the cadaver, here is what one student said on a previous thread: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showpost.php?p=2668343&postcount=7

So there is no formal anatomy class aside from head and neck? I guess they are assuming because we fulfilled their requirement that we should know anatomy for the NBDE I (as well as study it on our own)...what about biochemistry?

you really study a lot of stuff on your own. they are presented to you in class, but as far as teaching it to you? i am not so sure what to say.

Yup...no financial aid for me either. I'm kinda getting worried now. Shouldn't we have had some progress by now...hmmm.... 😕

I didn't get anything about my master PN to sign...am I behind or something...

So what is everyone doing to prepare for the beginning of classes?? Anything?? I've just been shopping... 🙄 ...not taking any moves to get into school stuff yet, just trying to relax before I have to really get into it.

Anyways, lets keep this thread alive, I miss reading stuff I am to anticipate at IUSD. I'm usually too lazy to reply...but I read.

I'm really getting worried about the financial aid stuff...

anywaysss...guess I'll see you all soon! 😛

there is no need to worry about fin aid stuff as long as you have all your FAFSA stuff complete. our school's fin aid does run sorta slow, but you will be fine.

as far as preparations goes, you are doing exactly the right thing if you arent doing anything. just relax and enjoy your summer. trust me you will be glad you did that once anatomy starts. not that it very difficult but it is very time consuming.

Quick Question:

Does IUSD provide us with free scrubs, or should I buy some before I get there??

well i did get an email and a snailmail with a link to sign my mpn, but when i went to the website, there were no loans to sign for. i guess i'll just have to keep playing the waiting game.

also, do many people wear scrubs to lectures first year? cause that would be niiiiiice. just think. wake up, no need to match your clothes, the comfort of pajamas, and style? whew baby! 😎

I'm pretty sure you have to buy the scrubs yourself. I'm just gonna buy 3 pairs b/c we have anatomy 3 times per week, I believe.

Time is flying this summer unfortunately. Come Thursday, I only have 3 weeks left of freedom (moving June 30). I'm gonna take a trip to some mid-western states (TX, OK, NM, CO, and KS) with my boyfriend next week as a "good bye". 🙁

Then, I have 3 days to pack up my life and leave everything I love 1000 miles behind me. Gee, do I sound depressed much? I know once I get to Indy, things will be different. I'll be too busy with school and meeting new people to be sad.

Have any of you found an apt/house/condo/dorm?

if you got an email asking you to sign the MPN, then it should be there. you should be able to sign it.

as for scrubs, well i wouldnt wear anything but scrubs for the 1st year. 1st off, you will be living in the anatomy lab for a while. then you start waxing up preps and doing a lot of messy things in there. not to mention that the humidity in Indy makes you wanna wear scrubs and scrubs only.

Good plan...just make sure you wash them every weekend! 😉

And, I personally found the novelty of running around in scrubs wore off pretty fast, so I just wore ordinary street clothes for most of first year. For us at least, they didn't enforce the dress code very strictly. But, it's all a matter of personal preference. Enjoy your road trip!

Random question:

Do you know if most out-of-state students get an IN driver's lisence and an IN tag for the car? I don't know if I will be considered a resident by the state during my upcoming 4 yrs there. Do you know who I can ask or call?

I'm not sure about that, actually. I'm an in-stater, so it's something I never really even thought about. Maybe Ahmad can answer that?

Do we suppose to have our scrubs before school starts? I didn't see anywhere that we must have them prior starting school. Or do they tell us doing our orientation that we need them? Also what about textbook?

yes you will be considered a resident by the state. you are required by indiana's laws to get your indiana lic within 10 days of you getting here. however, they cant prove how long you have been here. i'd still get that stuff out of the way if i were you.

Scrubs aren't ever required, so you can buy them before class starts, after, or even never if you'd prefer. Textbook lists are distributed at the start of each semester, and they're all sold in the med school bookstore (though I strongly recommending shopping online, you'll save a ton of money if you can find several books there).

When I called the administrator who deals strictly with residency issues at IUPUI (including the professional schools), I was told that in order to become a resident of IN (basically in order to be allowed to pay in state tuition) that you had to work for 1 year in IN without taking ANY classes during that time. It doesnt matter if you own property, get married, have a drivers license, pay utilities, pay taxes, or have IN tags on the license plates. You can only be considered a resident if you work for 1 full year without attending classes....so what you are asking is not possible (seeing that we will be at IU for the sole purpose of being educated). We (as out of state students) can never gain in state status (with few exceptions). This sucks, but its a reality

as for as books go, i'd honestly not buy any of them till you start your classes and see if its really gonna help you. i was told this by several people last year but ofcourse didnt listen. i wish i didnt buy any of them and saved a bunch.

the only two books that i really used were Ten Cate's histo and the anatomy atlas.

Ditto. I don't want to be encouraging people not to buy textbooks, but I've only purchased a handful, and gotten along just fine. You'll definitely need an anatomy atlas, Ten Cate's oral histology, Lodish's molecular cell biology, and a couple others, but most of them you can do without and be just fine. Come find me in the anatomy lab and I'd be glad to lend you what I have, or you might check with your second-year pro (= student mentor) to borrow his/her old books.

Whatever you do, don't buy Carranza's Clinical Periodontology in fall of DS2. $110 was a lot to spend on a paperweight, but I must admit it does an exceptional job of holding up the textbooks beside it that actually matter. 👍

thanks for the response. i know i'll never gain residency as far as tuition goes. i just wanted to know if the state would view me as a resident b/c i wanted to know if i needed to get a new license and tag. 😉
