let me guess.... SGU and you are usernames: drsaurabhchandan and invincibledoc13 on VMD 😛
lol...yes yes...although i've got the first one deleted on request now...!
coralis...did u finally decide between dublin and SGU ???
Yup.... I'm taking SGU because it will only put me in debt with 120K CDN ... not bad.... vs. Dublin would make me go into debt for 300K .... taking into account that I can rotate in the UK from SGU and that my EU citizenship won't go anywhere....I don't think I am gaining more by going to Dublin. I do ADORE Ireland..... this is the only sad part! But.. HELL with a great carreer I can fly to Ireland all the time with no worries 😛
yup...yup...yup! Most Canadians do...it's called the International Peace Scholarship. You apply, write an essay, prove that you can AT LEAST cover tuition ONLY and they provide with a scholarship up to 70K .... given to you as a tuition cut. I got 35KYou get $$ from SGU?

You HAVE to show you can cover tuition.....otherwise they will stop your application. Make sure you show the exact amount of tuition 😉 coverage...remember you also need to live, which is pretty much what they calculate and award...some living money 😛...indirectly. Yup JC handled my app! JC is SUPER nice!tell me something, the financial aid for non us citizens form i filled out does kinda show that i can support the entire tuition. does that hamper your chances? cuz then technically u don't "need" the help !?? also how long after applying did u hear from them about the scholarship being granted? was ur application handled by JC too?

Just out of curiosity...why would St. George give Canadians scholarships (if they don't to most US students)? Is it because the Canadians are better students, on average (b/c it's hard to get into Canadian med schools and there are so few spots)?

hmm...although my counselor RA and the scholarship incharge JC both seem to be super busy to be answering to any emails at the moment....i don't want to be pushing it. jan 10 is still a fair distance away. and vmd/sdn doesnt even show any1 (or just a few) talking about jan 10 as of now ! maybe im the only one in for jan 10 !!
how long did JC take to approve u? and is 35K the max they offer ??
Hmmm...very interesting.
It kind of looks like the US students get a little screwed over, though...because the schools knows they'll be able to get loans, I mean. I think this is also the reason behind the crazy inflation of tuition at many US undergrad and graduate/professional schools in recent years, as well. With the ready availability of student loans in very high amounts, there isn't much incentive for schools to control costs, since students will be able to pay.
There was a very interesting program segment on a major US TV network nightly news a couple weeks ago about US citizens going to Canada to study. They interviewed an 18yo young lady from the northeast US who had gotten accepted into Georgetown and McGill, but decided to attend McGill because it is a good school and a ton cheaper (at least 10-15k less tuition/year I think). The reporter also mentioned more and more US students applying to other good Canadian universities (Dalhousie, etc.). I actually think it's a great idea, but I wonder if Canadian universities are going to get flooded with applications from US high school seniors if college tuitions in the US keep going up. I mean, there are so many of us (people in the US) relative to the Canadian population. I'd think at some point the Canadian taxpayers might get kind of irked by subsidizing US students' education and I wonder whether the schools strictly limit the number of foreign students they take.
