January and Later Interviews Too Late?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Would they be pickier though? Assuming they have very little spots left.

I think it's school dependent. If the school has already filled most of their seats then they'll probably be a bit more critical.

I can't tag him cuz I'm on my phone by try asking for Goro's help as he is faculty/admissions at an unnamed DO school.

It depends on the school. I'm currently attending the school where I interviewed in March. I was wait-listed at my two April interviews (one already had a full class, one did not but was offering mainly wait list and very few acceptances to its April and May interviewees).

I think January has a special quality of being a post-December deposit month, but not too far out that you're fighting for 5 seats. There will be positions in the class opening up and schools will be looking to fill them. However you do need to be considerate that you're not in the same place had you interviewed in September and especially rock the interview.

What about November interviews? I'm attending two this month and will only attend one for sure post-December. Whether I will attend the other two that I have scheduled next year will largely depend on my decisions from my November invites.

What about them? ... I say go to any interview you get from a school that you're seriously considering. Too many interviews is not a bad problem to have.

Are they more relatively lenient than say, January interviews?

As someone else said, this somewhat depends on the school. For example, my school fills up pretty fast and has already given out a large number of acceptances. Other schools trickle acceptances out to give an "equal" chance to all interviewees. November is still pretty early in my books, so... yes, perhaps you could generalize to say that November is better than January overall.

Edit:
But do realize that this "late interview = waitlist spot imminent" is founded in some truths...
1)Early interviews go to the top applicants (one exception being SUNY Buffalo) -- of course they're going to get acceptances more often than people who were at the bottom of the pile.
2)Sometimes schools do fill up a bit too much for where they are in the season and need to delay more acceptance decisions -- overfilling a class is a big no-no. It's more likely that schools will be at this point after the new year.

Thanks for making this thread as I'm also starting to worry about this. I think I Speak For OP and myself when I say that we wouldn't approach other interviews any differently, but it would be good to know so as we know whether our chances for getting waitlisted have increased dramatically instead of getting accepted. @Goro what would you say? At what point do we start interviewing majorly for waitlist spots rather than acceptances? Thank you in advance!!

Yeah, I mean I would still do my best at any interview that I attend in January/February, I would just keep on wondering whether I'm interviewing for an actual spot or a wait list spot during the entire interview.

At that point it's out of your control anyways, they wouldn't have invited you to come and waste their time and yours if they weren't seriously considering you. If you have the opportunity to interview earlier, go for it, if not do your best with what you're given.

To me, interviewer mentality is simple.

Prepare for the interview like it's the only one you're going to have. After the interview, expect to be rejected. No regrets, no expectations.

I wouldn't let my mind be distracted by all the factors that are involved with whether or not you are actually going to be at that school when school starts. There are just far too many things to account for.

Congrats on your invites and best of luck on your preparation and interviews!

Some schools don't start interviewing till November. I don't think a January interview is bad at all. Interested in goro's input.

I had my nyit interview on Jan 15 and my touro interview on Feb 3. Got into both

I have two interviews in January and one in February. Would I just be interviewing for a spot on the waitlist? Thanks!
I interviewed in April last cycle and got accepted. Schools will generally let you know if their classes are full prior to the interview.

Got into my school with a January interview. Many people from February did too. Waitlist interviews are typically around mid March and beyond.

You'll be fine. Even if you are WLed, you'll be first in line for one of dozens of spots that open up when students make up their minds where they want to go. I know some schools interview into April, so you're actually just in the middle of the process. Not late at all.
Give each interview your very best.

Anyone has ideas for January interviews for Touro NV in specific? Do they try to fill up their class by the year's end?
