Anyway, just to finally clarify what I have been saying:

Unfortunately the source of error in this argument lies on your side, because you don't have a full grasp of the situation. Logically follow these steps:
1) A person who is willing to go to a hospital obviously wants help and wants treatment.
2) Unfortunately, the 'correct life saving course of treatment' which happens to be a blood transfusion goes against this individuals religious freedoms.
So please enlighten me, where in those two steps did the patient demonstrate a nonsensical attitude? I'm sorry but the only nonsensical thing is the fact you're saying someone demonstrates stupidity by refusing ONE avenue of treatment. There are other bloodless options to a patients recovery, but i'm sure you've already researched those options.

Anyway, personally i'm not very religious whatsoever, I just find your attitude condenscending and offensive. It is possible for there to be other options, so the patient is not stupid, and yes they may or may not be more expensive; that's life.
The hard part about arguing over situations like that is it's very hard to make general statements because each situation is unique; there are many different circumstances where some action would be required. For instance if the patient did, indeed use a huge amount of resources for an extended period of time. And when the patient is under 18 years old, i'll agree with you there.
To conclude, one of the first key aspects to effective healthcare is a respect for the patient. Doing everything to demonstrate this before stigmatizing beliefs goes a very long way in the betterment of all avenues, patient and doctor alike. Anyway, sorry about the 12 or 13 comment. Same team.

if someone finds modern medicine all that offensive then perhaps they ought to go to a traditional religious healer or something.
that would not be the best option but it is their choice not to get the best treatment. individuals have rights up to a certain point but when their actions start to mess up the lives of others then they become more limited in their rights
